National Heroes Day celebration 2019
Vice President Leni Robredo encourages Filipinos to be heroes to each other, saying those honored on National Heroes' Day were regular citizens who decided to make a stand when the country needed it.
"Magsilbing paalala sana ang araw na ito na walang iisang bayani ang makapagsasalba sa atin mula sa ating kinalalagyan. Wala sa kamay ng iisang tao ang solusyon sa lahat ng ating mga suliranin, at walang iisang pinuno ang makapagbibigay sa atin ng mas magandang bukas," she also says.
(May this day be a reminder that there is no one hero who will save us. The solution to our problems is not in the hands of just one person, and no single leader can bring us a better future.)
"Pilipino ang bayani ng kapwa Pilipino. Ikaw ang bayani ng iyong kapwa, at may kakayahan kang makagawa ng makabuluhang pagbabago sa iyong bayan at sa buhay ng iyong kapwa tao," she also says.

A bill wants to rename the Armed Forces of the Philippines headquarters from Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo to Camp General Antonio Luna after the fierce Philippine general who fought in the Philippine–American War and later assassinated by Aguinaldo's men.
Luna was Chief of Staff of the Philippine Revolutionary Army for 134 days until his brutal assassination on June 5, 1899. He was only 32 years old.
Deputy Speaker and Surigao del Sur Rep. Johnny Pimentel proposed House Bill 4047 which seeks to amend Republic Act 4434, the 1965 law that changed the name of Camp Frank Murphy to Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo.
"Luna deserves greater recognition for his patriotism and military prowess," Pimentel says in a statement.
"Our bill seeks to honor and accord 'The Fiery General' the nobler distinction and prominence that he rightfully deserves," he adds.
Pimentel’s bill was filed on August 20 but was only made available to media on the eve of National Heroes Day.
