Philippine court rulings
The Supreme Court Public Information Office on Wednesday announces the imposition of penalty of disbarment on a lawyer for "fabricating a supposed order dated Aug. 2, 2006 in Civil Case No. 206-16977 granting a purported for presumptive death of his client's husband."
It says that lawyer Ariel Maglalang "made it appear that he filed the said a petition for presumptive death but a petition for nullity of marriage."
The high court then applies Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability in determining Maglalang's liability. CPRA took effect on May 29, 2023.
It adds that the SC was convinced based on the evidence that Maglalang authored and used the forged order. Under the CPRA, falsification of documents is a serious offense that could be sanctioned disbarment, among many others.
