President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declares the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections on October 30 as a non-working day in the Philippines, according to the Presidential Communications Office.


October 9, 2023

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) says it is all geared up for the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

Meralco says its crews are on standby to respond to any electricity service concern for the October 30 polls.

It adds that it has already inspected the electric facilities of close to 3,000 polling and canvassing centers, which include public schools and barangay halls, within its franchise area. It is also conducting maintenance activities for its distribution facilities to ensure stable and reliable electricity service on election day. — Rosette Adel


October 8, 2023

The Commission on Elections says the number of gun ban violators arrested reached 1,000, according to a radio report. 

The Barangay and Sanggunian Kabataan election gun ban took effect at 12:01 a.m. of August 28. 

"The Election Period and the Period of Prohibited Acts, foremost of which is the Ban on the Bearing, Carrying or Transporting Firearms and Other Deadly Weapons (Gun Ban), shall commence on 28 August 2023 and shall remain until 29 November 2023, pursuant to COMELEC Resolution No. 10905 in relation to COMELEC Resolution No. 10924," the poll body says. — Rosette Adel


September 11, 2023

The Commission on Elections says there are 22 petitions for disqualification filed before the poll body in relation to the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

The certificate of candidacy filing was concluded last week.

According to Comelec, the petitions have been docketed by the Clerk of the Commission in relation to the 2023 BSKE. There is also one petition that involved Premature Campaigning/Illegal Campaign Materials.

The Commission on Elections reminds voters to choose leaders who serve whole-heartedly.

In a social media posts, Comelec says that every vote counts and should not be done in bare-minimum.

"Piliin natin yung pagsisilbihan tayo nang buong-buo. Dahil hindi pang-bare minimum ang halaga ng boto mo," the poll body says.


August 31, 2023

The Commission on Elections suspends the filing of certificate of candidacy (COC) for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in the National Capital Region on Thursday due to the bad weather and flooding.

It also cancels work in its offices due to the unfavorable weather condition.


August 30, 2023

The Commission on Elections reports that there are a total of 530,449 aspirants who filed their Certificate of Candidacy per elective post in the past two days of filing for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls.

According to the consolidated daily report of the Comelec, 41,074 have so far filed for the barangay captain post while 35,522 applied for the SK chair.

A total of 290,107 file COC for barangay member while 166,746 filed for SK member.

The figures cover 82 provinces.


August 28, 2023

Commission on Elections-Davao spokesperson Gaye Enumerables says that their office was filled with aspiring  Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials on the first day of the certificate of candidacy filing, according to a report of PTV.

Enumerables says Comelec-Davao is not expecting this turnout that drew several hopefuls as early as 5 a.m.

COCs are accepted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.


August 21, 2023

The City of Taguig issues a statement "extending its heartfelt appreciation to the Commission on Elections for its wise and prudent decision to recognize the ten EMBO barangays as being part of Taguig in the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections."

Taguig local government unit says the poll body's "move to fully implement the Supreme Court’s final and executory decision in the territorial dispute  is highly commendable, and stands as a testament to its commitment to upholding justice and ensuring peaceful and orderly elections."

It adds that the Comelec's decision is in compliance with the SC's "clear and unambiguous" decision.


August 18, 2023

Commission on Elections spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco says the poll body is almost 100% ready for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections this year, PTV reported.

Laudiangco also says the filing of Certificate of Candidacy for BSKEs is slated August 28. It will push through even if it's a holiday, citing that those who are working may also file their COCs.

The Commission on Elections conducts mock elections for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections 2023 on Tuesday, PTV reports.

Comelec chair George Garcia observes the mock elections activity along with Commissioner Rey Bulay who is in charge of the BSKE  as well as poll watchdogs PPCRV, NAMFREL and LENTE.

Supreme Court declares as unconstitutional RA 11935 that postponed the holding of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to the last Monday of October 2023 from the initial schedule of Dec. 5, 2022.

The SC Public Information Office, however, says the high court “recognizes the legal practicality and necessity of proceeding with the conduct of the BSKE on the last Monday of October 2023, pursuant to the operative fact doctrine.” — Kristine Joy Patag
