G7 Summit updates
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to the G7 for talks with allies and major developing nations is a "way to build peace", French President Emmanuel Macron said Sunday.
Macron said it was an "honour" to make a plane available to take Zelensky, first to an Arab League summit and then to the G7, saying it showed "France building peace and looking for solutions". — AFP
G7 leaders vow Saturday that attempts to "weaponize" trade and supply chains would "fail and face consequences," in a thinly veiled warning to China over its economic practices.
"Attempts to weaponize economic dependencies by forcing G7 members and our partners including small economies to comply and conform will fail and face consequences," the group say7s in a statement that did not directly mention China. — AFP
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will arrive in the Japanese city of Hiroshima on a French plane Saturday afternoon to attend the G7 summit, a diplomatic source tells AFP.
Zelensky will hold talks with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the G7 summit, the source says. He will also hold separate meetings with US President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. — AFP
