Philippine Coast Guard major updates
September 24, 2023

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) say that they "strongly condemn" the China Coast Guard’s (CCG’s) installation of floating barrier in the Southeast portion of Bajo de Masinloc (BDM), which prevents Filipino Fishing Boats (FFBs) from entering the shoal and depriving them of their fishing and livelihood activities.

According to PCG spokesperson Jay Tarriela, the floating barrier with an estimated length of 300 meters was discovered by the PCG and BFAR personnel onboard BRP Datu Bankaw when they conducted routine maritime patrol last September 22, 2023 at the vicinity of BDM.

Tarriela says that PCG will work closely with the concerned government agencies to ensure the safety and security of our Filipino fishermen and to uphold our maritime rights and protect our maritime domains.

Coast Guard personnel rescue five Japanese crew members of the distressed vessel MV Catriona off Oriental Mindoro.

The rescue operations conducted by BRP Habagat early Saturday were done moments after the maritime incident where the damaged fishing vessel listed on one side.
