Mass production of Scheffleras through single node cuttings

HORTITECH - Lebon - The Philippine Star

One of the fastest and most cost-effective methods of propagation of Schefflera is through single node cuttings.

The technique involves cutting a piece of bud attached to fully expanded leaf or simply: A leaf with bud attached to it. The growing bud will be supported by the food produced by the attached leaf. Plant leaf and bud should be maintained under high humidity to prevent tissues from drying up. Most cuttings should root before 3 months and should be ready for replanting in 5 to 6 months time.

Newly planted leaf node cuttings need to be nursed under high humidity. This may be achieved by placing the whole pot or tray in a plastic bag. Bigger systems usually employ intermittent misting.
