Plant Conditioning for Indoor Vertical Garden Plants

HORTITECH - Lebon -

MANILA, Philippines - Plants used for vertical landscaping takes a while to adjust to its new environment. The old method of uprooting the plants then transfering the same directly into the planting modular blocks takes at least 3 months to stabilize or to resume active growth. To solve this problem, Godong Ijo Nursery in Indonesia pre-grow the plants in polyester fibers (locally known as “Kudel”) before placing them into the modular blocks or the carpet backing or blanket. This cuts the grooming time by at least 2 months.

Regular nursery plants are taken from their original growing media then the roots are wrapped in non-woven polyester fiber (serving as the medium) and then planted in moist burnt rice hulls. The plants adjust to the system before they are planted into the vertical gardens. This technique shortens the grooming (waiting) time and the plants look better.
