Filipino makeup masters reveal top 3 trends
MANILA, Philippines — Filipino makeup masters have spoken: “Under the Sea,” “Divinely Dazzled,” and “prismatic and rainbow lips” are the biggest makeup trends for 2017.
Over 200 of the best makeup artists in the Philippines recently gathered at the beauty section of SM Makati to launch SM Beauty PRO-Card, which entitles makeup artists and enthusiasts a 10 percent discount for purchases at the SM Beauty Section.
For 2017, makeup artists took part in a “Glam Session” at SM. Guests got a peek of what is hot right now and what to look forward to in the coming seasons in terms of makeup.
“We all love makeup. We love using it, we love talking about it, we love sharing tips and we never stop retouching!” said Miss Universe Philippines 2011 Shamcey Supsup-Lee.
“Right before an event, we’ll be re-doing our lashes, our contour, our lipstick, our gloss, over and over until the event starts,” she added.
Model and beauty queen Bianca Valerio then introduced the key looks for the year. First, there is “Under the Sea,” which she described as a colorful and playful rendition of different shades of blue, green and other marine-inspired colors. The blues are applied neatly as eyeliner and then dispersed like fake freckles on desired parts of the skin to resemble scales.

Second, there is “Divinely Dazzled,” which is heavy on highlighters and strobing. Blush is then applied to make one seem drunk.
“Highlighters are all the rage right now,” said Valerio.

Finally, there is “prismatic and rainbow lips,” which could be achieved by putting on different lip colors all at once or by creating a gradation of different shades. As Valerio explained, “Even if you don’t do anything with your face for as long as the lips look so dramatic, that is sure to make a statement.”
