Now it's clear to me

I have a confession to make: I don’t wash my hair every day. It’s true. I have admitted to this dirty little secret of mine to my model colleagues, and they have looked at me with disgust, as if I was this unhygienic slob.Is shampooing just five or six days a week a huge crime? Or grime?

For most Filipinos living in hot, humid and polluted cities, washing your hair every day has not only become routine, but almost cultural, even. In my youth, my yaya washed my hair daily but warned me that sleeping with wet hair every night would eventually make me blind. I have news for you, Manang: Twenty-five years later, I still have 20/20 vision. Though maybe I should have listened to her about not making faces in the blowing wind, because I’m somehow stuck with this one.

Now, going back to my not-so-daily hair washing routine; if you, too, are appalled, I say get over it. In fact, shampooing my hair daily has done more harm than good. Case in point (and this leads to yet again, another shameful admission), I used to get white, flaky clustered bits scattered sporadically on my crown. Oh yes, I am talking about the gnarly case of dandruff. So I thought to myself, if over-shampooing my hair exacerbated the problem, then perhaps my hair needed a break.
