Crowning glory days

PENNYLANE - PENNYLANE By Rebecca C. Rodriguez -
There are certain things that go well together – like shampoo and conditioner. Ah, that’s the perfect pair to achieve a healthy-looking mane. Bad hair days can be a total nightmare. Annoying flakes, frizz, lack of volume, and damaged locks can ruin your look. Unmanageable hair is such a daily hassle. Actually, it is more of a struggle.

Aside from spending time putting makeup on, taking care of one’s locks is just as important. The price of vanity of course is beautiful hair. Don’t we want that every day? After all, your crowning glory is what defines you and boosts your confidence.

Cream Silk recently held a Hair Makeover Mission at the Rockwell Tent. Amanda Griffin, Heart Evangelista, Bea Alonzo and Shaina Magdayao showed off their conditioned locks using Cream Silk conditioners. This hair recovery campaign aims to tell women that shampoo alone is not enough to achieve manageable hair. By using the right Cream Silk conditioner suitable for your hair type, your hair will definitely have a soft and smooth glow.

Orange Aberin, assistant brand manager of Cream Silk, says, "The Hair Makeover Mission provides a convenient venue for consumers to see the benefits of the Cream Silk conditioners fit for different lifestyles." The venue was transformed into a salon where hair experts gave personalized hair consultations to determine the Cream Silk conditioner suitable for a particular hair type.

Along with other journalists who attended the event, I was given a hair consultation card to fill up regarding my current hair-care regimen. I had to write my collection of shampoos, conditioners and styling products for my high-maintenance, naturally-curly locks. Hey, most people think I have thick hair, because it fluffs up like cotton candy. But in reality, it is so thin and fine.

The hair analysis began with a Wayne’s World-style extreme close-up of my strands. The scope magnified my scalp and hair. No flakes for me but a lot of split ends instead. The hair experts prescribed Cream Silk’s Thick and Strong conditioner to help in my mission to have manageable hair.

Victoria, a Cream Silk attendant, shampooed my hair before applying the green variant. Some hairdressers say it is ideal to condition the hair from the middle to the tips, and never on the scalp since it will cause dandruff.

However, she suggested that since the scalp has enough moisture from the oils, it is best to condition the tips of the hair and work your way to the top. Leave it on for a minute and gently massage the hair before rinsing off.

Then, Nelson Cruz from Essensuals Toni & Guy salon was patient enough to layer my hair properly and got rid of the split ends. I got the result I wanted – manageable blow-dried tresses that curled back after an hour.

"Cream Silk has a solution for every hair need. It helps consumers find out what they want to achieve for their hair," explains Aberin. Not all women use conditioners, which result in a lot of hair problems. Through Cream Silk’s research arm, the Elida Hair Institute, six variants were created to address different hair needs.

For fine and limp hair, Cream Silk’s Light and Bouncy with baby oil will work wonders. Not only does it moisturize the scalp and maintain the hair’s natural volume, it also eliminates tangles. Hair becomes lighter and bouncier for that va-va-voom feeling. Just look at Bea Alonzo.

Oh, what a terrible feeling it is to have unruly hair that is prone to breakage. How can you let your hair down? Amanda Griffin swears by the Thick and Strong variant. It contains silk proteins, which make the hair stronger and more manageable.

Trendsetters love to experiment with everything including the hair. Now, that is a good thing, but the latest fads like rebonding, relaxing, digi-perm, and coloring can damage one’s crowning glory. This is why Heart Evangelista uses Cream Silk’s Protect Plus with aloe vera to keep her hair smooth and glowing from too much over-styling.

It is so embarrassing to have flakes on your sexy black top. Shaina Magdayao uses Cream Silk’s Dandruff Control with Zinc-PTO. This conditioner clears away flakes while keeping the scalp healthy, itch- and dandruff-free.

As time goes by, one of our biggest fears is for the hair to fade to gray. That is a sign of old age, which we want to prevent. Feel the "reversal of time" with the Black Shine variant. It contains henna extract, which darkens the hair up to 25 percent with just 10 consecutive uses. And it gives a beautiful shine as well.

For emergencies like baby hairs (not patay na buhok) sticking out, the Leave-on Conditioner is the quickest fix. This "miracle of the millennium" makes the hair shiny and manageable anytime and anywhere for that all-day hair conditioning.

The great thing about all Cream Silk variants is that they contain the Micro-Tech Shield system that pushes away dirt, smoke, and pollution to maintain soft and shiny hair. Besides, concludes Aberin, "There is no other conditioner that is specially designed for Filipinas."

Taking good care of the hair is a typical Pinay thing to do. Shampooing is definitely not enough. So, adding a conditioner to your current hair care regimen will surely be worth all the effort to make the hair look beautiful. The crowning glory is something to be proud of since it is part of who we are.
