Fashion advice to the graduate

STYLE S.O.S. -
Dear Lucy,

Graduation time is fast approaching. As one of this year’s graduates, I just would like to ask what type of trendy or fashionable gown is suited for the graduation ball. I just wanna look simple and elegant. Could you give me some fashion tips? Or could you suggest some dress styles?

foxene

For me, there couldn’t be a better time for graduation season than now when fashion is at its flirtiest, prettiest best. Instead of the usual vampy tight dress, Fifties’ glamour is back. The fuller skirts, soft, billowy fabric, and popsicle colors are not only more forgiving of figure flaws, they spell anything but b-o-r-i-n-g, too.

If you have the budget for it, go to a reputable designer (Randy Ortiz is very popular not only with brides but prom-goers as well. Contact him at 922-8375) and have a gown made for keeps.

Remember though that your consideration of a trendy gown should only come second to that of choosing one that would best flatter your figure. If a cut with a full skirt in mid-length will not flatter your figure, then you can probably compromise by choosing a sleeker silhouette in a trendier color. Enjoy your graduation ball.

Warts And Where
DEAR TINGTING,

I have warts around my neck. Could you recommend the best derma clinic I could go to?

SALOME C. CONSULTA

Any derma can zap away warts. Have it done very lightly. Some beauticians can do that, too, via the electrolysis portable "ball pens." Put an anti-inflammatory cream after. Don’t scratch the scabs. They will fall on their own. Just continue putting the cream daily. I’ve used Lidex, Deprogenta and Elica. I’m not a doctor of medicine – I’m telling you this based on a grandma’s experience and what’s found in her medicine cabinet.

Vanishing Face Cream?
DEAR MARY,

I read your column last Jan. 14 about a face cream to erase spots on the face. Right after I read it, I went to Rustan’s to look for it, but according to the saleslady, the only face cream Rustan’s has is Estee Lauder and it does not come in a stick. Do you know where I could buy the stick form?

CONNIE

As far as I know, only Rustan’s distributes that Estee Lauder age spot remover. They may have run out of it. Actually, I prefer the Chanel stick – it’s transparent, comes in a roll-on cylinder and is very nicely packaged. It is also sold at Rustan’s. In case it’s out of stock, ask them to call you when they already have it and to reserve one or two sticks for you.

Different Products For Different Skin Types
dear lucy,

Maaung buntag!
Hope you’re doing fine as well as your loving husband and pretty daughter Julianna. I’d like to ask if it’s true that beauty products should be specifically suited to our skin type. Because one that’s hiyang sa ’yo may not be hiyang sa akin. Two months ago, I used Nivea Visage natural day/night moisturizer, Nivea Visage toner, Nivea Visage facial foam, but it seems that they didn’t work for me. I still have pimples all over my face. Am I allergic to their special kind of ingredients?

doubtful lady

Yes, it is true that products vary according to skin type. The fact that a product did not work for you does not automatically mean it is of inferior quality and vice versa. Shopping for the right skin product is a lot like shopping for shoes – it’s very personal and purely relative.

Lipo Cost
DEAR TINGTING,

I’d like to know how much Dr. Vicki Belo charges for a liposuction and what her website is.

GEMMA

We asked Dr. Belo and she said that a lipo could cost from P40,000 to P120,000, depending on the area. Her website is www.belomed.com, where there’s a button for questions.
