Alex Gonzaga idolizes Toni as a singer

Joyce Jimenez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Alex Gonzaga named her sister Toni as one of her idols in the local music industry.

“Siyempre si ate ko talaga. Kasi tinuturuan ako nyan kumanta, kami lagi nagte-training,” she replied when asked to named her idol among the local artists.

She also idolizes “The Voice of the Philippines” hosts Sarah Geronimo and Lea Salonga.

“Si Coach Sarah kasi gusto ko sa kanya 'yong performance, kapag nagpe-perfom siya. Si Coach Lea naman ang lamig ng boses,” she said.

Alex recently launched her  self-titled album “I Am Alex G,” with its carrier single “Panaginip Lamang” which will be used in her teleserye “Inday Bote.”

The Kapamilya actress-host admitted that having an album is one of her greatest dreams, and was thankful that Star Records granted her wish.

Record producer Jonathan Manalo even attested that Alex is really a singer.

“Singer talaga siya na nagco-comedy. Hindi siya comedienne na kumanta. Marunong talaga kumanta si Alex, 'yon ang gusto namin i-prove sa album na 'to,” he said.

“I Am Alex G” contains six all-original tracks. The song “Break na Tayo” was her collaboration with sister Toni and Manalo. She has also written the lyrics of the song “Boyfriend.”

Alex said the songs on her album are relatable, since it speaks of love, heartbreak, and getting over.

She promises her fans that they'll be able to hear some of the songs in the album in her upcoming concert “AG from the East: #TheUnexpectedConcert” on April 25 at the Smart Araneta Colesium.
