From online to real life: The rise of Megan Nicole

MANILA, Philippines - One day, aspiring artist Megan Nicole posted a cover video of a song in YouTube upon the encouragement of her father. Little did the Internet superstar know that this would mark the start of her music career.

"It was never a dream of mine to be famous and music was just something I really loved doing. My dad encouraged me to post my first cover video as a way to share my music with others and who knew it would get me to where I am today," she told philstar.com.

Megan, a 19-year-old Texas native, currenly has over 1.7 million subscribers in her channel where she would upload videos of herself performing song covers.

"The best way to describe it is as pop. (My) first album is very fun and about living in the moment and being young. There are definitely some slower more emotional songs on the album as well. Some of my songs have funk influence to them because growing up I listened to a lot of artists like Stevie Wonder and Al Green. As I continue to grow I hope to add more of that influence to my music," Megan said about her music.

Because of her sudden rise to Internet stardom, Megan has gone beyond online as she has been performing in different places to reach out to her real life audience.

"I'm from a little suburb called Katy, Texas and now it's crazy that I am able to travel and perform for people around the globe!" she said.

Aside from performing live to connect with her fans, she said she loves answering online questions from her fans and she also likes to make videos to reach out to them.

"It's great to connect to my fans through the videos and social media, but there's nothing like connecting to them in person through a live performance," Megan said.

This coming May 25, Megan will be joining different bands lined up for Circuit Fest, a music and skate festival in Makati.

"I'm super excited! I hope everyone has a fun time and enjoys the performance. The set is pretty upbeat, and I'm looking forward to performing some new original music for them all," she said.

Fans of the YouTube superstar are also in for a treat as Megan will be launching a new original song on May 28.

"They can expect a new original song called "Summer Forever" coming out on May 28th! And hopefully I'll be getting out on the road again soon to perform," she said.
