MANILA, Philippines - Excitement was at a high last night at the 2299 compound in Pasong Tamo ext. with invited guests and artists joining in the revolution as Radio Republic (www.radiorepublic.ph) formally launched two original shows as part of its promise to provide music lovers all over the world with a 24/7 certified OPM experience. Partner in this effort is Philstar.com.
And in what is sure to be a future music trivia question answer, Pupil got things started in Java Jam, playing some of their hits including TNT, Pikit Bukas, Obese, and Pusakal. The band likewise answered tweeted questions via @radiorepublicPH from fans during the live show. When asked by the show’s host Dylan how music will be like 10 years from now, the band offered “music will go back to the 60s, autotune rap, and holograms”.
Some tweeted questions were: “bakit ang angas niyo?” (Pupil: depends on how you define angas); “will you ever come to Norway?” (Pupil: if you offer us salmon); “do you even like each other?” (Pupil: do we even have to answer that?”)
Later in the night, Saab Magalona played her music picks on Celebrity Spin, hosted by Aryn Cristobal. Her choices included those from Eraserheads, Parokya ni Edgar, and Philippine hip-hop legend and her father, the incomparable Francis Magalona.
Entertaining the crowd in the open area outside prior to the online shows was Manila Soul Shakers, a super soul collaboration of sorts between members of The Young Instigators and the Flippin Soul Stompers.
Radio Republic continues its launch week tonight with two more shows, Muchikahan hosted by Ryan Cayabyab and Jay Durias with guest Gloc9 at 9PM, and SWAG, hosted by Joy Hendrickson with guest Misellaneous at 11PM. Outside the studio, the Elements Campers Nar Cabico, Inky De Dios, and Bullet Dumas will be playing for invited guests at 8PM prior to the online shows.
