Miles Teller, J.K. Simmons star in ‘Whiplash’

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines- With fractured drum sticks and blood-stricken fingers, writer-director Damien Chazelle’s highly acclaimed drama and festival favorite, Whiplash, has raised the bar in all the major 2014 international film festivals.

After winning the US Grand Jury Award and the Audience Choice award at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, the movie went on to Cannes Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival.

Whiplash also took top honors at the recent Deauville American Film Festival in France and is being touted as a strong contender in the upcoming Academy Awards.

A tale of woe and dreams, Whiplash is set in the life of a promising 19-year old drummer at a cutthroat music conservatory who ratchets into high gear after being picked to join the school band under the tutelage of the infamous terror music teacher Terence Fletcher.

Starring The Spectacular Now and Divergent actor Miles Teller and Law and Order’s J.K Simmons, Whiplash is dubbed as Sundance’s strongest opener in years that showcases enthralling and intense performances from Teller and Simmons.

Shortly after its premiere, Whiplash received countless praises from film critics who construe that the film will assault every viewer with its musical and emotional supremacy.

An absolute masterpiece that will rattle you even after the lights come up, Whiplash is set to hit the theaters on October 15.
