MANILA, Philippines- The power of the human brain is explored in the film “Lucy,” starring Scarlett Johansson.
The story revolves around Lucy (Johansson), a simple student in Taiwan whose life changes after her boyfriend tricks her to meet a “business partner” that turns out to be a syndicate. As they make her a human transporter, they implanted a powerful synthetic substance in her stomach.
This substance could cause her death if it leaks inside her body. When substance does leak, Lucy started to feel different. She begins to feel everything around her—space, air, vibrations, people, even gravity—and develop superhuman traits including telepathy, telekinesis, expanded knowledge and breathtaking control over matter.
With Lucy slowly feeling that she's loosing her human traits, she seeks the help of Professor Samuel Norman (Morgan Freeman), who believes that if human brain's capacity is fully used, people could do things beyond one could take.
Joining Lucy and Dr. Norman in searching for answers or even cure is French police officer Pierre Del Rio (Amr Waked), who aside from giving assistance, constantly reminds her how it is to be human.
The action-sci fi film “Lucy” is directed by Luc Besson and will be in Philippine cinemas on August 6.
