Bruno Mars joins the comic musical world of ‘Rio 2’

MANILA, Philippines- Bruno Mars joins the cast of the 3D animated film “Rio 2.”

He will play the role of Roberto, the almost-perfect, oh-so-charming Blue Macaw bird who happens to be Jewel’s (Anne Hathaway) childhood friend and almost lover.

With the great things surrounding Roberto, Blu (Jesse Einsberg) gets intimidated and threatened that he might lose the love of his life, Jewel.

Producer John C. Donkin says that Mars really “transformed our thinking about the character.   He added a unique quality we initially hadn’t envisioned for Roberto, which we came to embrace, and the character really blossomed.”

Meanwhile, Mars has grown to love his character. “I like that Roberto has a good heart,” Mars said. “He’s a genuine dude and he really has love for Jewel – genuine love.  They grew up together, so they have a bond that’s pretty special.”

He even wrote with Philip Lawrence and John Powell one song for the film titled “Welcome Back,” which he will sing upon seeing Jewel back in Amazon.
