Stars react to Supreme Court gay marriage rulings

The Philippine Star

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Hollywood has long been a vocal supporter of marriage equality, with some stars — including Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie — saying they'd hold off on tying the knot until the right to wed was extended to all Americans.

With Wednesday's Supreme Court rulings striking down the federal Defense of Marriage Act and clearing the way for same-sex marriages to resume in California, stars went online to share their elation:

— "Historic day. Well done #SCOTUS." — Leonardo DiCaprio.

— "I look forward to exercising my American civil liberties... and getting fully, completely and legally married this year to my true love of over three years, Linda Wallem." — Melissa Etheridge in announcing her engagement.
