Go cites impact of Duterte’s policies, anti-drug campaign
MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go has highlighted the impact of the administration of former president Rodrigo Duterte on the lives of Filipinos.
Go said Duterte’s policies, particularly the anti-drug campaign, reshaped public safety and reduced crime incidents.
He said Duterte’s leadership left a lasting legacy of safer streets and stronger communities.
“The public can attest that they can go out at night and walk along the street without fear of being attacked or robbed,” Go said.
He said that during Duterte’s term, 55 percent of barangays nationwide were declared drug-free following the seizure of illegal drugs worth P76 billion.
Go said that during the first five years in office of the former president, the country’s crime rate decreased by more than 70 percent.
He narrated personal encounters with ordinary people who expressed gratitude for the safety in their communities.
Go cited a survey result showing 79 percent of Filipinos supported Duterte’s anti-drug campaign, and his high approval and trust ratings.
Amid discussions on Duterte’s possible legal troubles with the International Criminal Court, Go shifted to personal matters, particularly the health of the former president.
“I promised former president Duterte that I would prioritized his health,”Go said, noting his concern lies beyond politics.
Although he and Duterte seldom engaged in political discussions recently, Go said he continued to prioritize the former president’s well-being.
“I always bear in mind his advice to do what is right, prioritize the interest of the country and the welfare of Filipinos. If you do this, you will never go wrong,” Go said.
