MANILA, Philippines — Korean actors Song Kang and Kim Min-kyu officially began their mandatory military service for South Korea's army, but not without one more surprise for their fans.
Both artists shared photos of their new buzz cut hairstyles on social media, accompanied by short temporary parting messages.
"Good!! Work hard!!! I will be back!!!" Kang said in Korean, while Min-kyu wrote, "I'll be back safely."
Each actor's respective agencies confirmed they would enter the recruit trainer center privately. Min-kyu entered first on April 1, then Kang followed the next day.
"We ask for the warm love and support of many people in order for Song Kang to return in good health with greater maturity after diligently completing his mandatory service," Namoo Actors said back in February.
Kang is best known for appearing in K-dramas that found popularity on Netflix, including "Sweet Home," "Nevertheless," "Love Alarm," "Forecasting Love and Weather," and most recently, "My Demon."
Min-kyu, meanwhile, is popularly known for starring in series like "Business Proposal," "Snowdrop," "The Heavenly Idol," "So I Married the Anti-fan," "Queen: Love and War," and "Perfume."
The two actors visited the Philippines last year — Kang had an event with fans courtesy of a skin care brand, while Min-kyu stopped by as part of his "Heavenly Moment" Asia fan meeting tour.
Both are expected to finish their military service in late September or early October of 2025.
