MANILA, Philippines — It is proving to be a year of firsts for Park Eun-bin.

Last October, she went on her first Asian fan meeting tour, including a stop in Manila. Today, the South Korean star's historical starrer "The King's Affection" is named the first K-drama to win an International Emmy Award.

"The King's Affection" won the Best Telenovela award at the 50th International Emmy Awards. The 2021 drama beat Brazil's "Nos Tempos Do Imperador," Spain's "Dos Vidas (Two Lives)" and China's "You Are My Hero."

"The King's Affection" has already received awards from its native Korea, including at the 2022 Seoul Drama Awards and at the 49th Korean Broadcast Prizes.

The drama tells the story of a court maid who was forced to live the life of her twin, the crown prince of Joseon Dynasty. It stars Eun-bin in the dual role of the fraternal twins, and Rowoon, as her love interest and teacher who comes from a noble family.

Apart from this award-winning historical drama, Eun-bin also starred in another critically-acclaimed hit drama, "Extraordinary Attorney Woo," released last June.

Eun-bin was offered to play the titular role in the 2022 drama about an extraordinary lawyer with autism but she initially turned it down because she was quoted to have said that she is not confident that she can pull off the role. She went on to film "The King's Affection." The production of the "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" was patient and insisted on her playing the role, which she eventually did, and gave a commendable performance throughout its 16 episodes.
