LIST: Best 'ships' in hit K-Zombie series 'All of Us Are Dead'
MANILA, Philippines — Are you Team Nametag or Team Best Girl and Bare-su? Or both? Netflix's hit survival zombie series "All Of Us Are Dead" premiered with much buzz online with fans clamoring for more "AOUAD Squad" in upcoming seasons (hopefully!).
"AOUAD" is both a coming-of-age and a survival story with Hyosan High School as the setting and ground zero of the zombie outbreak. With high school and raging hormones, there's bound to be unlikely friendships formed and love blossoming while they try to navigate their way out of the horrific ordeal.
Meet the best "ships" (pairing and friendships) that gave viewers all the kilig, hope, and heartaches in "AOUAD." [Warning: Spoiler Alert]
1. Best Girl Nam-ra and Best Boy Bare-su Su-hyeok
Cool, calm, and collected class president Choi Nam-ra (Choi Yi-hyun) meets reformed bad boy Lee Su-hyeok (Park Solomon or Lomon). They're an unlikely pair but they've proven to be among the best and more mature characters for their age.
Nam-ra is a fan favorite and has earned the internet's 'Best Girl' tag, while Su-hyeok has earned all the heart-eye emojis with his heartthrob looks.
Their 'opposites attract love story' clicked quite well with the viewers that they are a favorite subject of many YouTube fanmade videos. Who could forget Bare-su's admission why he doesn't call Nam-ra by her name? Or the bluetooth earphone moment? Or him standing by her side even at her darkest time, which proved to be the story's biggest plot twist?
There's nothing not to like with our 'Best Girl' and 'Bare-su', that fans are hoping they get the happy ending they deserve.
2. Team Nametag
Best friends Lee Cheong-san (Yoon Chan-young) and Nam On-jo (Park Ji-hoo) are your typical bickering childhood friends. They are next door neighbors who went to the same school from kindergarten to high school. They even fetch each other on their way to school. As anyone would guess, one of them has tender feelings for the other, while the other remain oblivious to the one-sided adoration.
One of the pair's most memorable scene had fans gushing and agreeing with Dae-su's (Im Jae-hyuk) "daebak" (awesome) remark. It was indeed an unforgettable campfire moment.
Viewers certainly wish for more than the glimpse of that precious nametag towards the latter part of the story, hoping it's not the end of their favorite ship.
3. Cheong-san and Su-hyeok
The friendship of the two male leads is the envy of many. It is unclear how they became close, as Su-hyeok had originally been one of the school's bullies. Now a good boy, he's basically got sporty, good boy Cheong-san's back.
It's the same for Cheong-san who would go after Su-hyeok in countless times they went out of their way to find solutions for their zombie dilemma. Aside from their thick-as-thieves friendship, some viewers have been "shipping" the two as potential BL (boys' love) tandem.
4. Nam-ra and On-jo
One is aloof, while the other has disliked the other at one point. One is consistently top of the class, while the other is a self-confessed bottom-dweller in the academic rankings.
Nam-ra and On-jo would eventually find that their differences help the other cope with their personal struggles amid the zombie outbreak. In the end, like their male counterparts, they've struck a friendship that withstood the test of time and even looming death.
5. Sassy Girls Ha-ri and Mi-jin
Senior students Jang Ha-ri (Ha Seung-ri) and Park Mi-jin (Lee Eun-saem) are both the definition of badass females.
Archery genius Ha-ri remains fearless as she deftly aims her bow and arrow at every zombie that comes their way. Her cool as a cucumber demeanor would often earn a "She's so cool" remark from Mi-jin herself, a no-nonsense girl who isn't afraid to fight back at the zombies. Theirs is an unlikely friendship born out of mutual respect and admiration.
6. AOUAD Squad
Yes, the whole squad at the Hyosan High School that remained uninfected by the virus. Initially brought together by the need to survive, they would eventually form a strong bond that every time one of them succumbs to the bite, it was quite heartbreaking for even the viewers to watch.
Apart from these ships, the tandem of detective Song Jae-ik (Lee Kyu-hyung) and police officer Jeon Ho-chul (Park Jae-chul) of #TeamScooterBus provided some sort of comic relief as they also navigate their way out of Hyosan with a baby, a toddler, a dimwitted social media influencer, and a never-ending supply of zombies in tow.
"All Of Us Are Dead" is currently the top most streamed show on Netflix. It premiered last January 28 with 12 episodes.
