The Eraserheads surprised fans with a “mini-concert” after the sold-out screening of the iconic band’s documentary film “Eraserheads: Combo on The Run” at the Gateway Mall Cinema 5 on Friday night.

The moviegoers were treated to live performances of timeless hits by vocalist and rhythm guitarist Ely Buendia, bassist Buddy Zabala, drummer Raymund Marasigan and lead guitarist Marcus Adoro.

It was towards the end of the credits when audiences were instructed not to leave their seats as music equipment was suddenly brought out to the center of the theater, and the members emerged one by one.

They staged a total of six songs — Superproxy, Combo on the Run, Alapaap, Spoliarium, Pare Ko and Magasin — sending the audiences to their feet.

“Biglaan lang ‘to,” joked Raymund, with Ely also quipping if details of their secret performance were leaked upon seeing the full house.

Eraserheads is set to visit more select cinemas during the limited run of the docu-film until today, March 23.

Directed by Diane Ventura, “Eraserheads: Combo on The Run” revisits the legendary rock band’s journey — from how they were formed in 1989, to their falling out and then their decision to reunite onstage.

“I knew I had to do it, not just for the fans of course, but for myself really… It’s about time that I own up to my faults and I wanted the band to have a second chance of also redemption,” Ely shared some of his reflections in the docu film.

“This is also the first time I think that we’ve actually known one another,” he further said of the band’s current relationship.

Marcus also said that where they’re at now is like making up for lost time.

“I’m doing things that I said I’d never think about. Even last night, there was a joke, ‘Let’s record a song.’ It was a joke. I never thought I’d say that ever again but that’s possible right now,” said Raymund.

Buddy also shared, “If you look around when you’re older, you will see fewer and fewer people who will get you. When I’m up on stage, I look around and see Marcus, Raymund and Ely, parang, oh, I think they get me and I get them. I’m so lucky.”

“It doesn’t really matter what happened before and what happened after. Plugging the guitar and you play the songs, parang it’s home,” further reflected Ely.

The band has announced that they’re officially back together and set to mount another concert, “ERASERHEADS: ELECTRIC FUN MUSIC FESTIVAL,” at the SMDC Festival Grounds in Pasay City on May 31.

“Eraserheads: Combo on The Run” is, meanwhile, presented by DVent Pictures and WEU, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
