MANILA, Philippines — Taiwanese actors Jerry Yan and Ken Hu paid tribute to their "Meteor Garden" co-star Barbie Hsu who passed away at 48.
Barbie's sister Dee said through her agent that the actress died of Pneumonia after contracting Influenza during a Lunar New Year trip to Japan.
Barbie is best known for starring in the first live-action series adaptation "Meteor Garden" as Shancai opposite the F4 composed of Daoming Si (Jerry), Ximen (Ken), Huaze Lei (Vic Chou), and Meizuo (Vanness Wu).
Jerry shared a farewell message for Barbie on the social media platform Weibo several hours after her death was confirmed, saying how grateful he was to have met Barbie.
"In your carefree, childlike years, you always said, live everyday as it were your last," Jerry said. "May you walk slowly this time. From now on in another world, there will be no troubles, and the years will be peaceful."
Ken also paid tribute to Barbie by sharing a blacked out image in an Instagram Story, followed by a repost of a throwback photo of Barbie with the rest of F4.
The picture, originally posted a year ago, has since been flooded with comments by fans offering their condolences and messages.
Another "Meteor Garden" star, Rainie Yang, who played Shancai's best friend Xiaoyou and Ximen's love interest, similarly posted a blacked out image on Instagram, saying: "Xiyuan, thank you. I will miss you forever and love you," refererring to Barbie's birth name.
Barbie is survived by her husband, Korean singer Koo Jun-yup, as well as her 10-year-old daughter and eight-year-old son, whom she had with her ex-husband, Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei.
