Janno Gibbs defends VMX content
MANILA, Philippines — Janno Gibbs expressed his opinion over the claims of Senate president Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada that VMX (formerly Vivamax) has been streaming “sexy content,” which is “easily accessible and may target younger audiences, who are more susceptible to influence.”
In his privilege speech last December, the actor-turned-politician called out the streaming platform, saying, “Vivamax, a subscription-based popular streaming service, has gained attention not for its meaningful and family-oriented content but for inundating the digital space with films and shows filled with graphic, sexual, and exploitative material.”
During the mediacon for VMX’s sexy gag show, “Wow Mani,” Janno, who headlines the show, defended the video streaming platform and its content.
“This is just my opinion,” he stated. “Sen. Jinggoy is doing his job. He’s doing very well. He has all the right to say sa kanyang opinions.”
For Janno, VMX is “not a public viewing venue,” rather a “private viewing venue.” “You are paying for it. Ikaw lang mag-isa. It’s not like na kayo maraming manonood. It has a child lock, and you need a credit card.”
“Second, wala tayong napapanood sa VMX na hindi napapanood sa Netflix na scenes. Sometimes even more sa Netflix, di ba? Are we also going to censor Netflix?”
He also noted how VMX has given the chance for new artists “that they would have had in the mainstream field.” “For a lot of them, this is a great stepping stone na binibigay na trabaho ng VMX,” said Janno and added that most of the movies in VMX are helmed and written by well-regarded directors and writers.
In “Wow Mani,” Janno took on dual roles as Injanno Jones, an adventurous explorer, and Janno Depp, a quiz master.
According to a media release, “Wow Mani” is “packed with steamy skits, cheeky humor, and mature laughs that take comedy to the next level.” The first season has 12 episodes with new episode streams every other Tuesday. It is helmed by Dominador Isip III.
Also part of the show are mostly female talents, including Jenn Rosa, Denise Esteban, Zsara Laxamana, Chloe Jenna, Sunshine Guimary, Krista Miller, Yda Manzano, Skye Gonzaga, Salome Salvi, Christy Imperial, Sahara Bernales, Ada Hermosa, Candy Veloso, Lea Bernabe, Aliya Raymundo, Angeline Aril, Jonica Lazo, Sheena Cole.
Nicco Locco and Aerol Carmelo are likewise joining them.
“Wow Mani” features various segments, namely, “Battle of the Braless,” “Injanno Jones,” “Tricky Girl,” “Tirsong Tuso Sketch,” and “Steam Bath Gag.”
“Wow Mani” is a “refreshing show,” stated Janno. “We know yung napapanood natin dun (VMX) are serious love scenes, drama, horror. This is, I think I can speak for all the girls, this is refreshing sa kanila na light naman. It’s sexy but it’s all in a good fun.”
“This is something that the other gag shows that I did (before) couldn’t do. Kasi yung ibang ginawa ko, there’s limitations because it’s on TV. Since this is streaming, we have no limitations — from physical to language. One hundred percent yung kalokohan.”
On the title of the show, which sounded like the previous popular gag show “Wow Mali,” hosted by Joey de Leon, Janno said he didn’t need to ask permission from Joey. He explained, “Although we’re friends, I called him pare (Joey), I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it na katunog.”
