Enrique Gil to produce more movies after MMFF entry 'Strange Frequencies'
MANILA, Philippines — Kapamilya actor Enrique Gil revealed he will focus more on producing new films rather than acting following his Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2024 entry "Strange Frequencies" which he starred in and co-produced.
In an interview with the media during the MMFF Gabi ng Parangal last December 27, Enrique said that producing movies excites him.
"It's part of growing up. You have to constantly reinvent yourself in this industry and to be able to produce at the same time," he said. "Ang sarap pala ng feeling na mag-create ka ng different stories and concepts."
Enrique added that he does not see himself stopping anytime soon when it comes to producing more content and creating better stories for Filipinos.
The actor-producer also expressed his gratitude for the positive feedback on "Strange Frequencies," directed by Kerwin Go and co-starring Jane de Leon.
"We really weren't expecting much. We just thought of a cool concept, I mean, compared to the other entries na talagang acting pieces, grand, grand cast and everything," Enrique said. "I'm just really happy to be part of the entry and I'm a huge horror fan, so sana magustuhan ng mga manunuod 'yung type of horror na ginawa namin."
Enrique said the film is something never before seen in Philippine cinema, as it was shot by the actors themselves, though cinematography is credited to Mark Tirona.
"Wala kaming cameramen, so ang sarap ng feeling while watching the film tapos makikita mo na shot mo 'yun. 'Uy, shot ko 'yan! Nasama 'yung shot ko? Ang ganda ng shot ko ah!' Parang ganun," Enrique ended.
"Strange Frequencies" won Best Sound at the Gabi ng Parangal and received seven other nominations including Best Actress for De Leon and Best Cinematography for Tirona.
