It was nice seeing and talking to Geoff Eigenmann after a long time. The actor has been enjoying his roles as a loving husband to Maya Flores and a doting father to their three wonderful kids. Being away from the limelight is a change of pace and a big turnaround for Geoff but he wouldn’t have it any other way.
Geoff is a hands-on dad and shared that his world revolves around his family. He is proud of his children who are now seven, five, and four years old. “Pag magkakasama sila, it’s complete chaos. It’s awesome. Sobrang saya maging tatay talaga,” he exclaimed.
Fatherhood has made him a better man. Geoff admitted during the interview on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” that he has never apologized so much since having kids. “It’s hard for them to grasp certain things kasi they don’t understand the world fully yet. Iba iyong mundo ng bata sa mundo ng matanda. I try to explain myself to my kids, ‘It’s because daddy’s having a bad day that’s why I reacted that way.’ I apologize kasi lagi akong pumipitik and it’s not their fault.”
It was quite an adjustment from what Geoff used to do as an actor. “‘Pag artista ka, you do play with your emotions on screen. When you’re a public figure, it’s hard to wear your heart on your sleeve coz everybody will see. You can’t have a bad day and show it to people. In a sense, medyo naguluhan lang ako but now everything’s better.”
Geoff is no stranger to acting since he belongs to a royal showbiz clan that includes his grandparents Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil; parents Michael de Mesa and Gina Alajar; uncle Mark Gil and aunt Cherie Gil; siblings Ryan and AJ; and cousins Sid, Andi, Gabby, and Max. He starred in movies like Bcuz of U, First Day High, and Ang Panday. He showed his brilliant acting chops in series such as Rosalinda, Grazilda, Kasalanan Bang Ibigin Ka?, Forever, Kailan Ba Tama ang Mali?, and Contessa.
Geoff admitted missing showbiz. “It’s something I pretty much grew up in. Our whole family does it. I’ve done it ever since I was young.”
According to Geoff, it’s really up to his children if they want to enter showbiz since acting runs in their blood. He will follow what his parents Michael and Gina did when they gave Geoff and his brothers the option to choose if they want to be in showbiz or not.
Geoff only had good words about his wife Maya. “I found someone who understands what’s going on with me. We talked about things. We’re always on the same page about everything and through our eight years together, marami na kaming pinagdaanan, and I’m sure we’re still gonna be going through so much more stuff but we’re a team.”
Both are open with each other, even talking about their former relationships. Geoff said, “That’s how you get closer together. Na-shi-share mo iyong mga pinagdaanan mo with your special someone. She understands. She knows everything.”
I asked Geoff if he is open to working with Carla Abellana again if they are hypothetically offered a reunion movie. “Yes, I would. I think now in our lives a lot has happened to each of us separately. That’s where maturity and growth come in. It’s all in the past. We’re professionals. We did this together for a long time before, why can’t we do it now?”
It’s been years since they last saw each other and they had a short conversation then.
I wish to see more of Geoff in another acting project soon. Just as he said during our conversation, “I’m still around. I’m still here. I’m not going anywhere.”
