Japan lifts ban on exporting strawberries to Philippines
MANILA, Philippines — Japan on Sunday lifted the ban on exporting fresh strawberries to the Philippines.
The Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF) announced the lifting of the export ban.
“Big news for strawberry lovers! Starting Dec. 15, Japan’s juicy & sweet strawberries will finally make their way from Japan to the Philippines! Thanks to the agreement between MAFF & Philippine authorities, these berry-delicious exports are good to go! Who’s excited for this fruity milestone?” Japanese Ambassador Kazuya Endo wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Endo said the two countries have reached an agreement to lift the ban of the export of the fruit into the Philippines.
“The previous restriction was implemented due to concerns over pests associated with fresh strawberries from Japan. In response, the MAFF engaged in extensive technical discussions with Philippine quarantine authorities, driven by requests from Japanese production areas,” the embassy said in a social media post.
