Since I grew up in showbiz, I hardly get starstruck. But when I met Michael Cinco or MC in Dubai, I turned into a fangirl.

I was surprised to find out that even if MC is world-renowned, he remains down-to-earth. Michael made me feel instantly at home when we had dinner with friends at a Lebanese resto in the City of Gold, where MC is based. I was thrilled by his comment, “So classy,” on my birthday reel on Facebook recently.

MC never ceases to keep Pinoy Pride burning. His stint at the Miss Universe pageant 2024 as one of the esteemed judges is yet another feather on his cap. I cannot thank MC enough for granting me an exclusive interview amid his frenzied sched.

Over and beyond his dazzling haute couture creations, it’s MC’s warmth and humility that make him truly admirable.

Let’s pay homage to a true Pinoy icon when MC comes home for his much-awaited extravanganza: Michael Cinco’s “The Impalpable Dream of the Eternal City” on Dec. 2 at the Marriott Grand Ballroom. It’s presented by the Philippine Legacy Gala.

Keep soaring, MC. The world is your runway. Bravo, Cinco Magnifico.

Here’s my chat with Michael:

What was your most memorable experience in Mexico?

“Witnessing the vibrant culture, warmth and hospitality of the Mexicans. The electric energy of the Mexico Arena during the finals, coupled with the honor of being on the selection committee, made it an unforgettable moment. Sharing this journey with extraordinary individuals and celebrating the brilliance of women from around the globe truly felt like a dream come true.”

With newly crowned Miss Universe 2024 Victoria Kjær Theilvig of Denmark.

What made Miss Denmark stand out for her to win the crown?

“She stood out with her undeniable poise, grace and authenticity. Beyond her striking beauty, she exuded intelligence and charisma, speaking passionately about issues that resonated globally. Her ability to connect with both the audience and judges through her confidence, empathy and eloquence set her apart. She truly embodied the essence of Miss Universe — beauty with a purpose and a voice for positive change. From Day One, when I met all of them and talked to her during the closed-door interview, she was already my most favorite.”

What were your Top 3 favorite gowns?

“Choosing favorites is always a challenge, as the candidates showcased breathtaking designs this year. However, my Top 3 would be:

“Miss Philippines: Her gown was a masterpiece of modern elegance, with intricate embroidery and a feathered cape that reflected her heritage while exuding timeless sophistication.

“Miss Venezuela: It was a dazzling, form-fitting gown with cascading crystals that shimmered like stars, perfectly complementing her radiant confidence.

“Miss Thailand: Her gown was absolutely ethereal, with an exquisite beaded feather neckline that beautifully narrated the rich story of Thai culture. The intricate details and craftsmanship seamlessly combined traditional artistry with modern elegance, making it a standout piece that truly celebrated her heritage.”

What’s your message to Chelsea Manalo?

“Chelsea, you had my full support and I gave you the best scores while judging. You may not have made it to the Top 12, but your journey and representation of the Philippines were nothing short of inspiring. Your grace, confidence, and unwavering dedication to showcasing our culture on the global stage were truly remarkable. Remember, being on the Miss U stage is already a victory in itself. Keep shining. The world is still yours to conquer!”

What would you want to ask the new Miss U?

“Do you believe that the inclusion of mothers, who juggle significant responsibilities at home with their families, should be given the opportunity to join Miss Universe and showcase their strength and resilience on a global stage?

What do you think of the fashion battle between Heart Evangelista and Pia Wurtzbach?

“The fashion battle between Heart and Pia is truly a spectacle of two iconic style forces, each with their own unique flair.

“Pia’s style is classic and sophisticated with a modern twist. She effortlessly blends elegance with bold choices, often opting for clean lines and sleek silhouettes that exude confidence and grace. Pia knows how to balance glamour with simplicity, making her looks timeless and versatile. Whether it’s on the red carpet or in a casual setting, she always carries a sense of poise that makes her stand out.

“Heart’s style, on the other hand, is a masterclass in high-fashion artistry. She plays with intricate details, textures, and avant-garde silhouettes, and often mixes couture with street style. Heart is known for her bold, fashion-forward choices and isn’t afraid to experiment with color and form, making her a true fashion risk-taker. Her style is always fresh, playful, and incredibly refined, with a strong emphasis on personal expression.

“Both women embody beauty, elegance, and confidence, but their styles are distinct. Pia’s is polished and timeless, while Heart’s is artistic and boundary-pushing. It’s not a competition — it’s a celebration of two incredible, powerful women who each define fashion in their own remarkable ways.

This columnist with the world-class Filipino fashion designer.

“We should celebrate both Heart and Pia for their unique contributions to fashion and their individual achievements. Comparing them takes away from the strength they both bring to the table. They represent different aspects of beauty, grace, and style, and each of them inspires countless individuals in their own way. It’s important to support and appreciate them for their distinct voices in the world of fashion, rather than pit them against each other. We should be proud of both for showcasing Filipino talent and grace on the global stage.”
