MANILA, Philippines — From Chucky doll and his bride to pop superstar Taylor Swift, celebrities, showbiz personalities, and influencers — including GMA Sparkle artists — attended this year’s “Shake, Rattle and Ball” in character, donning their most outlandish and eye-catching outfits on the black carpet last Thursday at One Ayala in Makati.
Tim Yap’s Halloween ball is themed Cirque, where “legends, freaks and icons” came together at the party, which was in partnership with Sparkle GMA Artist Center.
Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo and his girlfriend Chloe San Jose were a scene-stealing couple with their Chucky doll and his bride Tiffany Valentine-inspired looks at the ball.
Carlos shared in an interview that Chloe was the one who thought of the concept. “Gusto namin couple… We want to (achieve) an iconic look,” he further offered.
Tim, on the other hand, made a grand entrance at the party when he danced all the way to the stage in a Kokey costume. “It’s OK to be Kokey,” quipped Tim. “It’s OK to be different. It’s OK to be who you are. Tonight is all about expression and celebrating you.”
“Decided to be this Filipino alien and classic pop culture phenomenon for the ‘Shake, Rattle and Ball’ because I gravitate towards characters that have struggled and made it inspite and despite,” Tim wrote on his Instagram.
“Getting into this character (literally) wasn’t easy. It took so much prosthetics trial and error and in the end, I went for the original mask used in the show, resurrected from its resting place in a Bulacan warehouse to be given life for one night of Cirque.”
Celebrity doctor Vicki Belo and her husband Hayden Kho sported a Wonder Woman and “The Greatest Showman” ensemble, respectively.
The couple used other Halloween costume ideas for their daughter Scarlet Snow when she was a young girl, like Alice in Wonderland.
“Yan yung lagi, we dressed her up. We support (her). As parents, we make it more fun for her. Kami din nakiki-costume,” Hayden told The STAR.
Vicki chimed in, “But now new traditions na. She makes her own Halloween décor. She’s busy now in the house.”
“Mga gusto niya ngayon mga Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter,” added Hayden.
Singer-actress Vina Morales was also spotted at the show in her Satine from “Moulin Rouge” inspired suit. Kris Bernal came in a spooky, creepy doll attire. Jayda copied her mom Jessa Zaragoza’s yellow dress from the latter’s debut album cover art. Siblings Donny and Hannah Pangilinan channeled Frankenstein and Zendaya’s character Anne Wheeler in “The Greatest Showman,” respectively.
Sparkle Artists Ashley Ortega, Shuvee Etrata, Skye Chua and Roxie Smith got their wings as Victoria’s Secret Angels at the annual ball, Vanessa Pena as Olivia Rodrigo and Ella Cristofani as Taylor Swift.
Those who came in a group are Alethea Ambrosio as sparkling mermaid, Bont Bryan as vampire, Baninay as someone who got bitten by a vampire, Shaun Salvador as Peter Pan, and Aira Lopez as Queen of Hearts.
On their Halloween traditions, Alethea told this paper that hers is a trick or treat activity for kids and even kids at heart, Bont is lighting candles outside their house, Baninay is also lighting candles but inside their house, Shaun is watching scary movies while Aira is going to the cemetery.
Among the Sparkle influencers who showed up at the event were Maika Kemmochi as “Game of Thrones” main character Daenerys Targaryen, Emman Atienza as a clown, and Brandon Espiritu in a black and blue suit.
