Gold Aceron uncovers dark happenings in Mikhail Red’s ‘Lilim’
MANILA, Philippines — Taking on a role in a horror-genre film was no different from the characters Gold Aceron essayed in his previous projects.
He earlier appeared in Mac Alejandre’s “May-December-January,” Philip King’s “Secrets of a Nympho,” and Jon Red’s “Stag.”
The young actor is set to star in Mikhail Red’s forthcoming horror flick “Lilim,” produced by Studio Viva and Evolve Studios Production. It is topbilled by Heaven Peralejo, Ryza Cenon and Mon Confiado.
In “Lilim,” he plays Gabriel, the mute orphan boy. “He is a character who easily gets scared but parang palaban pa rin siya to help and wants to end the happenings inside the orphanage,” Gold told The STAR in an exclusive interview.
“Lilim” revolves around the story of a sister and a brother who uncover dark happenings in an orphanage where they live.
As part of his preparations, Gold cut his hair and watched thriller movies with mute characters.
It wasn’t Gold’s first time to do horror-themed films, as he had done it in “Spooky Nights,” “Third Eye,” and “Clarita.” But it was his first time to be directed by Mikhail (“Deleter” and “Nokturno”). “I’ve worked with (other) Red brothers before, so in a way, I’m comfortable collaborating with them. They are very kind.
“So in every scene that I did here, may lakas loob akong ibigay because I’m not afraid to be with them. And they guided me in every scene here even since I’m unable to speak, puro galaw-galaw lang.”
Comparing his past daring roles, he said, “This is just different because this is a horror (genre). But it never crossed my mind that this was different. Like parang parehas lang siyang character, but with a different story.
“In the Viva films that I’ve done before, I really liked my role. So parang hindi ko siya naisip na iba rin dito. Maybe the character is not the same… I mean they have different flavors. Maybe it’s a challenge dun sa kabila because sometimes you have a partner, may ilang, you will feel nervous. But this one (“Lilim”) is horror, mas madiin lang yung mga scenes.”
Gold shared that he watches horror movies to make him sleep. “Madilim, it’s dark when it’s horror. The scenes are slow (so it makes me sleep).” His favorite horror films are foreign movies like “Conjuring,” “Insidious,” and local films like “Sukob” and “Feng Shui.”
He didn’t share any horror stories as he hasn’t experienced one and doesn’t want to experience any in the future.
“Hindi ako masyadong matakutin (in real life),” maintained Gold. “Nilalakasan ko kasi yung loob ko. There are times that I feel afraid, like (for example), I’m in a dark place alone, nakakailang naman talaga.”
“But I always pray. So when I feel nervous, I utter some prayers right away. Tapos lalakas uli loob ko, like, ‘Hindi yan yan. It’s only in your mind.’”
He somehow believes in spirits and otherworldly stuff. “Because a lot of people experienced it. I didn’t. But it still puzzles me until now,” he said referring to the supernatural. “I hope I will not experience it… Ayoko na matakot, OK na ‘ko sa ganito, masayahin lang.”
Gold, nonetheless, admitted he has a fear of heights and is afraid of rodent species. His greatest fear in life is losing his loved ones.
