MANILA, Philippines — In the midst of issues surrounding her love life, Barbie Imperial shared what makes her glow nowadays.

“I work out often now, do exercise and tennis. And I always say this because people are asking me why I became thin. I just want to share, maybe this can help, I removed rice (from my diet),” the actress said at the mediacon of Viva Films and Happy Infinite Productions’ “How To Slay A Nepo Baby.”

“You can buy shirataki rice (to replace white rice). Shirataki rice has no sugar. I use that then normal lang yung ulam ko. Kahit anong ulam basta yun yung rice. It’s the sugar that (makes you gain) weight so I removed it.”

Such things have contributed to Barbie’s optimistic view in life recently. She elaborated, “Especially nowadays, it’s like everything you see, even if you’re seeing just one angle, it’s full of negativity. Actually, when you open your social media, it’s like no matter how good someone’s actions are, there will still be negativity.

“So for me, I think the secret really is to be positive. And as long as you know in yourself that you are not doing anything bad, let them talk.” She added that her focus right now is her work and her mom’s needs.

Admitting that she was nervous facing the press, she nevertheless thanked them for showing respect by not bombarding her with questions about her love life. “I was really nervous coming here but I appreciate the respect. Thank you so much,” said Barbie, who sparked dating rumors anew with Richard Gutierrez after they were spotted in South Korea.

In “How To Slay A Nepo Baby,” which premieres on July 31 in cinemas nationwide, Barbie portrays Cass who, together with her group of rich friends, travels north to Sagada to celebrate their work anniversary. They are nepo babies, “spoiled rich kids who think highly of themselves but are nothing without their parents’ wealth,” according to the film’s synopsis.

Her group of friends, Ada, J, Bella, Kel and Sho, plan for a careless and carefree wild night that’s overflowing with booze and drugs. But Yayo, Cass’s helper, guards them and prohibits them from doing anything too crazy. Ada and Cass then talk to Yayo for being a buzzkill, but it turns into a heated argument, and they end up harming his life.

But as Ada and Cass return to their friends, they are surprised to see Yayo, all well, without a scratch, and as if nothing happened.

Yayo convinces the group to visit the secluded area of Lunti, an off-the-grid village led by a mysterious woman named Inayon, where they encounter strange customs and traditions.

As the group stays longer in Lunti, the more they endanger themselves, and each second they spend there adds to their living nightmare. What will six privileged kids do in a place where their status and wealth have no value? Will they be able to leave Lunti, or reach their tragic end?

Helmed by Rod Marmol, the flick also stars Sue Ramirez, Phi Palmos, JC Galano, Charm Aranton, Chaye Mogg, Sue Prado, NAIA Ching, Ralph Gomez, Phi Gomez, and Coi Suazo.

“Sue is super OK to work with to be honest,” said Barbie of her co-star. “The set becomes happy when she is around. And of course, all of us on set, we were just happy. It felt like we were not working, we had bonding moments, especially when we went to Baguio. We really had the time to bond because we stayed there. Overall, all of them are super OK to work with.”

Asked who among her friends she would like to invite to watch the film with her, she answered “Ate Love,” her manager.

Meanwhile, the zodiac signs of all characters were mentioned in the trailer. Barbie revealed that she is a Leo and was born in the Year of the Tiger. “I think Leos are a bit frank. They are very real, what you see is what you get. Leos are not liars. They’re very honest. And I’m also a fire sign… Year of the Tiger. So Tiger, fire and I’m a Leo so sabi ni God, you have to be strong.”
