Wedding song inspirations from ‘Bridgerton’

SOUNDS FAMILIAR - Baby A. Gil - The Philippine Star
Wedding song inspirations from âBridgertonâ
Today’s brides have found a new source for their nuptial sounds. It is no other but that steamy regency-set, eye-candy of a series on Netflix titled ‘Bridgerton.’ Now in its third season, the Shondaland saga is about a titled family named Bridgerton living in a fictitious ton in London in the late 18th century. One of the tunes that wedding planners should look into is Yellow by Coldplay for Penelope and Colin’s wedding. They have also come up with one fantastic wedding song, All I Want, the first original song ever written for ‘Bridgerton.’

Remember when brides decided to do away with Elsa’s traditional wedding march by Richard Wagner from “Lohengrin”? The reason why was because they saw Ali McGraw saying I do to Ryan O’Neal in the tear-jerking movie “Love Story” with Pachelbel’s Canon in D playing in the background.

In more recent times, some of those would be wives ditched the George Canseco/Louie Ocampo song Ikaw in favor of A Thousand Years, composed by Perri and David Hodges and sung by Christina Perri. The reason why was because they saw Kristen Stewart getting married to Robert Pattinson in “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.” They didn’t mind that she was marrying a vampire, what mattered was that promise of a thousand years in the song.

Now I have a feeling that the days of last year’s Pasilyo by Sunkissed Lola as a wedding song are now numbered. This is because today’s brides have found a new source for their nuptial sounds. It is no other but that steamy regency-set, eye-candy of a series on Netflix titled “Bridgerton.”

Now on its third season, the Shondaland saga is about a titled family named Bridgerton living in a fictitious ton in London in the late 18th century. There are seven children in the Bridgertons and the past three seasons told of their search for love and how they were married off.

Aside from the competent performances by a most attractive cast of actors, “Bridgerton” has also established its reputation for cliff-hanging scripts and editing, fabulous sets and costumes, hot love scenes and its clever use of music.

There is an excellent original score in the classical style composed and produced by Kris Bowers. Aside from these, there are also covers of pop hits done in the same style. It was a nice surprise hearing Taylor Swift’s Wildest Dreams and Ariana Grande’s thank u, next done that way. So much so that I now make it a point to watch out for familiar melodies while watching.

Two of these are stand-outs that wedding planners should look into. Sign of the Times by Harry Styles that was used for Anthony and Edwina’s wedding and Yellow by Coldplay for Penelope and Colin’s. Not too keen on those? Then go back to Season One and get an arranger to make a version of the lovely original used for Daphne and Simon’s wedding. Better yet go for a “Bridgerton” original.

I do not know if this was intentional on the part of the music makers behind the “Bridgerton” soundtrack but they have come up with one fantastic wedding song. Titled All I Want, this is the first original song ever written for “Bridgerton” and it comes out in Season 3.

The song is a composition by Roget Chahayed, Wesley Singerman, Taylor Dexter and Nicole Cohen. It is performed by Tori Kelly who can be counted on to do a great job with any song. All I Want is no exception.

Of course, I do not expect everybody to think likewise but this is such an earworm of a pop tune with lyrics after my own heart. It does not say, I will love you till forever. It says “I wanna love you until I’m a ghost.” Yuck! Yuck! Or what do you think of “I will find you in every lifetime, the only heart that’s crazier than mine.” Yuck, yuck more.

I found All I Want on Apple music and I love it more and more with every listen. Check out the words and see how much it suits Penelope and Colin’s love story. And then maybe yours, too.

All I Want by Tori Kelly.

“Like the rain wants to fall and the sun wants to shine/ I want you close to me every night/ like the earth wants to spin and the fire wants to burn/ I want you here through the highs and the hurt.

“I bet that I would find you in every lifetime/ the only heart that’s crazier than mine/ I can hear a symphony yeah/ all I want is you next to me.

“If you’re the question/ I’ll be the answer/ if you’re the music/ I’ll be the dancer/ and when we get older/ we’re gonna stay young/ ‘cause today and always you’re all that I want.

“Like the grass wants to grow/ I want to run anywhere that you go/ like the waves want to break and my hands want to hold/ I wanna love you until I’m a ghost.

“You’re all that I want.”
