MANILA, Philippines — The newly elected officers and members of the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) formally took their oath of office yesterday, March 21. Leading the group as its new president is Salve Asis, entertainment editor of Pilipino Star Ngayon and Pang Masa. Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte served as the inducting officer at the oath-taking rites held at her office in Quezon City Hall. Joining Salve Asis as the new president are other SPEEd officials, including Gerry Olea (Philippine Entertainment Portal), External Vice President; Tessa Mauricio-Arriola (The Manila Times), Internal Vice President (not in photo). Also sworn into their respective roles were Gie Trillana (Malaya) and Maricris Nicasio (Hataw), secretary; Dondon Sermino (Abante) and Dinah Sabal Ventura (Daily Tribune), treasurer and assistant treasurer; Ervin Santiago (Bandera) and Nickie Wang (Manila Standard), PRO; and Rohn Romulo (People’s Balita), Auditor. Former SPEEd president Eugene Asis (People’s Journal) also attended as one of the organization’s consultants. Ian Farinas, entertainment editor of People’s Tonight, also served as the group’s consultant. Other members of the association are Neil Ramos of Tempo, Robert Requintina of the Manila Bulletin, Nathalie Tomada of The Philippine Star, Rito Asilo of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Jun Lalin of Abante, and Janiz Navida of Bulgar. Nestor Cuartero of Tempo and Manila Bulletin and Dindo Balares (former entertainment editor of Balita) serve as advisers to the group.
