'Fantastic Four' announces official cast led by Pedro Pascal
MANILA, Philippines — Marvel Studios celebrated Valentine's Day by officially announcing the cast of "Fantastic Four," set to come out in 2025.
Marvel's First Family composed of Pedro Pascal as Reed Richard (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (the Thing).
No actor was cast yet as Dr. Doom, the superhero group's main villain eyed to be Marvel's next big bad ass instead of Kang the Conqueror, following the legal troubles of Jonathan Majors.
The studio made the announcement on social media by posting a '60s-style postcard with illustrations of the actors as their Fantastic Four characters.
Additionally, Disney swapped the release dates for "Fantastic Four" and "Thunderbolts," with the latter now taking the early May slot while "Fantastic Four" coming out in mid-July.
2025 will also see the releases of two other Marvel films: the fourth "Captain America" movie in February and "Blade" in November.
The announcement confirms the casting of Pascal after rampant speculations the past few months; he will likely finish shooting the second season of "The Last of Us" before starting production on "Fantastic Four."
Kirby, best known for originating Princess Margaret on "The Crown," previously teased her intent to play Sue Storm.
Quinn was the breakout star of "Stranger Things" Season 4 as fan favorite Eddie Munson, and Moss-Bachrach recently won an Emmy for his role in "The Bear."
The Fantastic Four first hit the big screen in 2005 and 2007 with Ioan Gruffudd as Mr. Fantastic, Jessica Alba as Invisible Woman, Michael Chiklis as the Thing, and Chris Evans as Human Torch (he later would become Captain America).
A reboot was attempted in 2015 starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, and Michael B. Jordan (before becoming Killmonger in "Black Panther") but it was a critical and commercial flop, and eventually Disney bought the rights to the characters from Fox to bring them into the grand Marvel fold.
John Krasinski made a brief appearance as Mr. Fantastic in 2022's "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" in response to fan casting; the character was only a variant and was quickly killed off.
"WandaVision" showrunner Matt Shakman will direct "Fantastic Four" with a script by Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer.
