Sarah Edwards holds her own in the presence of veteran actress and teleserye queen, Claudine Barretto, in Lovers/Liars. The Regal artist plays Trina, the stepdaughter of Via, portrayed by Claudine.
Sarah ticks all the boxes of a character who wants to claim her space in the real-estate company Pacifica Land, built by her father, and gets in the way of Via.
In a previous episode of the nonconventional, triple-plot drama series, Trina and Via engaged in a silent yet loaded and done with class confrontation where the latter described the former as “a lonely, bitter nepo baby.” One could feel how Trina, as essayed by Sarah, tried to be calm and collected and pretended to be unfazed, even the words hurt her ego because of some truth they carried. The character just shrugged them off.
Sarah is among the Regal Entertainment and Sparkle GMA Artist Center young stars featured in the drama series.
“Sobrang excited, sobrang happy po (I was very excited and happy),” said Sarah of having the privilege to share the screen with Claudine and upon learning about it in a recent press conference. “Dati ko lang po napapanood si Ms. Claudine, ngayon nakaka-work ko na po siya (I just used to watch her on TV and now, we’re working together).”
In the Lovers/Liars storyline, Sarah’s Trina is part of what one may call the Pacifica plot, which allows viewers to see how the personal lives of Via, Caloy (Yasser Marta), Nika (Shaira Diaz) and Trina interconnect and intersect Via is the new CEO and owner of the real estate company, while Trina is part of the board. Caloy and Nika work as architects there and rekindle their romantic past. He has begun a secret affair with Via.
The characters’ actions and decisions present the ideas of lovers and liars, love and betrayal in contemporary times.
“I still remember the first day I acted with Ms. Claudine,” Sarah said. “We were saying our lines, and I was really amazed and starstruck.”
“There was also a time when I really didn’t know how to speak to Ms. Claudine, I also didn’t know how to act around her. Though when she started talking to me, I felt so much more comfortable. She is very caring and thoughtful,” added she.
Now that she has found her way to collaborate with the series’ leading actress and her groove as Trina, Sarah said, “I’m so, so excited to be doing more scenes with Ms. Claudine and everybody else, everybody here is so talented. I’m so thankful and I’m grateful to everyone.”
That group of creatives includes director Crisanto Aquino, series creators Jose Javier Reyes and Noreen Capili, as well as executives and the brains behind the show, Jose Mari Abacan and Roselle Monteverde.
A quick look at online information about Sarah reveals that she initially worked as a TV commercial model and discovered her interest in acting from there. She also tried her luck at the MTV Pinoy VJ Hunt in 2014.
Roselle watched one of Sarah’s commercials and asked her team to find the talent. However, Sarah was working for a popular media outlet Dispatch in South Korea at that time. She could only pursue acting and doing local showbiz after her work stint abroad.
When this happened, Sarah touched base with Regal Entertainment and became part of the film Us Again with Jane Oineza and RK Bagatsing in leading roles, and the GMA Telebabad primetime series, Mano Po Legacy: Her Big Boss, starring Ken Chan and Bianca Umali.
She acted in the BL series Ben X Jim (with Jerome Ponce and Teejay Marquez), and the action-comedy series, FPJ’s Batang Quiapo (headlined by Coco Martin).
Sarah is also seen playing different roles in the GMA and Regal weekly anthology series, Regal Studio Presents.
Fast-forward to the present, Sarah is seen in Lovers/Liars. The recent episodes show that Hannah (played by Lianne Valentin) has realized that she seems to be with the wrong guy, the rich businessman Victor, and Andrea-Andeng (Michelle Vito) has finally divulged her secret to son Kenneth. Cardiologist Ronnie and medical sales representative Joseph (portrayed by Polo Ravales and Rob Gomez) are challenged to display their affection to each other in public. Caloy has found Nika and is fighting his love for her. The latest developments in his personal and professional lives might change his intentions and plans. Then, there’s Trina who confronts her stepmother.
“Ako po, kung malalaman ko na may lover ang aking karelasyon, masasaktan at magagalit po talaga ako (As for me, if I found out that my lover has someone else, I will really get hurt and feel angry),” Sarah shared her two cents’ worth on discovering a third party.
“I would have to say my goodbyes because of the betrayal and move on. Mag-le-let go na lang din po ako (I would also choose to let him go),” concluded she.
