The industry has a good batch of young stars
From DonBelle (Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano) to Andrea Brillantes, when it comes to work ethics, these stars deliver.
Just this week, we went with Donny and Belle in Binondo to have a conversation with today’s leading love team, thanks to their hit TV5-Netflix show Can’t Buy Me Love. What I appreciate about ABS-CBN’s team coordinating this is that, unlike before, where the on-ground reporter strikes anywhere to interview not knowing the availability of the actor, the interview is done in between takes. There is a designated window time to sit down with them and have a proper conversation.
Sure, the structured schedule has been going on in Hollywood or international sets since forever but formalizing it has been quite new to Filipino sets. Let’s get real.
Before, it was not new to wait eight hours on set just because there was not a proper point person to update the schedule of the stars and scenes, but now, there is a clear time wherein we could expect what we could get out of the coverage.
Kudos to Donny and Belle because when it was time to sit down with them, Donny actually dozed off because of exhaustion from his scenes and he was tapped and advised that he had to get on with the interview since the schedule of Can’t Buy Me Love’s taping was tight and they were even running three units that day.
Belle was just catching her breath coming from another location, on the other hand, and as soon as she went to the standby area, she was advised to go beside Donny and stand by for our sitdown chat. Such troopers!
When I said thank you for accommodating me, it was even Belle who showed her gratitude that we took time to visit. It is in those things that show the actors’ character that their fans and the people around them notice more why they are worthy of following.
Donny admitted that they were really leaning on each other’s shoulders because of this new teleserye life they have chosen as partners.
“To be honest, bago sa amin ito. First time kasi namin mag-serye life and ngayon medyo makikita niyo as Belle said tatlong unit kami! It has been a lot of emotions, we’re just trying our best to be there for each other and support one another,” the actor said.
Another young star I met this week was the controversial Andrea. We all know she has been caught in the middle of the Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla breakup, but seeing her at 9 a.m. at TV5 Media Center in Mandaluyong with her high energy, shows how unfazed her aura was.
When we sat down with her, she shared, “Ako pa nga nauna, eh kesa sa prod! Ay! Haha!”
To think that Andrea came from Nueva Ecija the night before to sing at an event.
Asked how she was and where she got her energy from, she said, “Hindi naman po ako pwede mag-stop! Marami pa po akong kailangan gawin in life and marami pa po akong kailangan bayaran! (I can’t stop. I still have many things to do in life, and I still have many bills to pay!)”
Right now, she is still hands-on with her Lucky Beauty company. Andrea is also doing her three-times-a-week taping for Senior High, where she plays a pretty heavy character as Skye, who is trying to solve the mystery of her twin’s passing.
Luckily, she said that her support system is her secret to success, “I am very thankful for my mom and my sister. They really help me balance things out, I’m super thankful to my Lucky Beauty team. They understand my schedule.”
Personal growth-wise, Andrea gave credit to her show, Senior High, for being her safe space. She also learned so much from her character, especially in dealing with personal issues.
“Doon mo maaral na dapat mag-strategize ka rin at pino-process mo muna emotions mo. (You will learn from that situation that you should also strategize and process your emotions first),” she said.
“Huwag lang sugod ng sugod, ‘wag lang baril ng baril ng kung ano-anong salita. Dapat nag-isiip din muna! (Don’t just rush in, and don’t just shoot out random words. You should also think first!)”
