MANILA, Philippines — Binibining Pilipinas Globe 2023 Anna Lakrini is currently in Albania vying for the Philippines’ third Miss Globe crown after Ann Colis (2015) and Maureen Montagne (2021).

The 26-year-old model and German language teacher is competing against more than 50 other contestants at the 20th edition of The Miss Globe in Tirana, Albania. The coronation night will be held on Nov. 17 (Nov. 18, Philippine time).

Prior to the finals night, Anna emerged as the first runner-up at the Miss Bikini Globe 2023, next to Miss Brazil. The Philippine representative received an all-5 score during the first round.

“My winning mindset is that I’m capable with everything that I am, with being myself, with being authentically myself. I have everything that it takes (to win the title),” she told The STAR during her sendoff event at the New Gateway Mall 2 before flying to Albania.

“I have the training, I have the capabilities, I have the team behind me, the support behind me. I’m wearing the Philippine sash. I got it all. I just have to show (it during the competition).”

Representing the Philippines in the international stage is “a lot to take in” for Anna. “It has been such an honor because I felt (that in) my whole (journey) I didn’t belong, that I didn’t fit in. And to be here accepted by all my fellow kababayans, all my sisters, all my friends, has been such a lifelong dream.”

The Fil-German beauty is joined at the sendoff by fellow Binibini queens, from left, Atasha Parani, Angelica Lopez and Katrina Johnson.

She admitted struggling with discrimination growing up. “But whenever I struggled to find myself, I knew that I have a Filipino heart that will bring me to places. And in this case it’s also bringing me to Albania… And I know that this journey is not only for me but for all us Filipinos.

“I met so many incredible children during community work and I always hold them dear to my heart so wherever I go, whatever I do I really hope to inspire people and see that the Filipino bayanihan spirit is present all around the globe.”

She likewise believed that her biracial background is an advantage that will help her ace the Miss Globe 2023 crown. “Growing up with my background, I was growing up across all the diversities and I think that makes me someone who knows how to celebrate different cultures, how to bring different cultures together.

“And I hope within the Miss Globe pageant, I can showcase that all the cultures that are coming together are being celebrated and it’s OK to be unique, it’s OK to be different. And we all can celebrate one another by accepting it.”

If she wins, she plans to promote the advocacy of the organization by reaching more people, not only in the Philippines, but all over the globe. She shared, “I think one thing that I’ve seen from the past queens is they were able to travel. And I would (love) to travel all across the globe to influence more people not only about the causes of the Miss Globe but (also) causes that are also dear to my heart which is nutrition. And I think that if we encourage everyone all around the globe to learn even more about sustainable agriculture, we can ensure that no one on this earth has to die of malnutrition.”

Anna completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Nutritional Science at the University of Vienna. She is an advocate for accessible and affordable nutritional health. As per media release, Anna joined outreach programs to provide nutritional support to children in Tondo, Bohol, and her hometown Bataan during her reign. She also visited detainees in Bulacan to provide food assistance.

Anna vows to showcase ‘authenticity’ and pride as a Filipino as she vies for the Philippines’ third Miss Globe crown after Ann Colis (2015) and Maureen Montagne (2021).

Asked by this paper to rate her chances of winning the title from 1 to 10, she maintained, “Despite everyone rating themselves, I don’t wanna blow my chances. I lay my fate in God and only He can decide whether I’m worthy, whether I’m not worthy, whether the stars align or not. But in terms of my preparations, I give myself an 8. Wait (some) more and I will be at 9, and come competition, I will be at the perfect 10.”

Nevertheless, what she can promise to pageant fans and supporters is to “always be myself” and “wear the Philippine sash with pride, with all my heart.”

She added, “I will give it all I have got and I will genuinely be genuine to everyone. I can’t wait to meet different cultures and be the best example for cultures coming together and I can’t wait to celebrate (it).”
