MANILA, Philippines — Vilma Santos-Recto made a surprise appearance on the set of her son Luis Manzano’s new noontime program, It’s Your Lucky Day, during its sixth day of live airing at the ABS-CBN studio. She came as a “Star Judge” for its singing competition Star For All Seasons.

Luis, who is the main host of It’s Your Lucky Day, asked his mom, “Ano ang pakiramdam mo ngayon na isa kang jurado sa isang ‘singing’ contest?” to which Vilma wittily replied, “Alam mo, anak, uulitin ko, maaaring hindi maganda ang boses ko, pero alam mo, sa loob ng 15 taon, ito pa rin ang boses na, kahit pa sabihing hindi maganda, kapag kakanta ako... bayad!”

This marked Vilma’s first time as a star judge in a real singing contest for TV, as revealed by Luis. After the live airing, Vilma, known as the industry’s “Star for All Seasons,” graciously accommodated the entire studio audience and production team for photo opportunities.

Vilma hosted her own musical variety show for nine seasons from 1986 to 1995. She shared her thoughts on her son Luis hosting his own variety-game show.

It’s Your Lucky Day serves as the temporary replacement of ABS-CBN’s long-running noontime program It’s Your Showtime after it was ordered suspended by the Movie and Television Review and Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) for 12 airing days following complaints over its Isip Bata segment.

“I really commend them because as artists like us, imagine being part of a 12-day show,” said Vilma.

“However, their intention is to bring happiness, and they are not selfish. They provide continuity of joy, surprises, and tokens for their audiences. My son, Luis, has been in the industry for a long time, and he can truly carry a show. Let’s face it; he’s very witty. He can cater to millennials, adults, and senior citizens. I’m really proud of him, and I love you, Lucky!”
