What is one good thing you did today?
I don’t know if you notice that whenever I host a television show or a live event, I always say, “Be kind,” at the end of the program. It’s an encouragement to everyone to choose kindness amidst chaos and toxicity.
An act of kindness need not be complicated. Doing something unexpectedly good for someone instantly makes one feel a positive emotion and it only takes one small act to do that, yet only a few utilize that world-changing power.
Studies also suggest that those who do good deeds have better physical and mental health. Thus, being kind clearly has an uplifting effect on those carrying out the act. So, why not start doing even just one good deed today?
My latest endeavor which I call Just One, Isa Lang Movement aims to inspire a mindset of goodness to everyone because there is already so much negativity and hatred in this world.
Doing good is the antidote of toxicity. Then, let’s do something good, just one good deed a day and it will make a lot of difference. I believe that negativity cannot survive gratitude and goodness.
Kindness is not something that demands hard work or huge amounts of time or money. It’s something all of us can strive to achieve every day.
There are many ways to be able to spread kindness. It could be saying thank you to grab drivers or offering to make a cup of coffee for someone at work. A simple gesture of smiling at someone inside the elevator can truly make one’s day brighter.
In connection with Just One, Isa Lang Movement, I wrote on my Facebook page a couple of days back, “Tell me, what one good thing you did today?” and I received so many responses from people that truly made my heart full. Among them were, “I listened to my friend,” “Called my mom and told her, ‘I love you, Ma,’” “I was patiently understanding of my boss’ tantrums,” “I gave my seat to a pregnant woman,” and “I’m tired but I still managed to smile to other people.”
Equally interesting were the answers of over a hundred celebrities with video recordings that will soon be uploaded on my TikTok account, Facebook page @therealboyabunda, @JustOneIsaLang on YouTube and @justone_isalang on IG.
I am hoping that more people will be inspired to do one small good deed every single day. Oftentimes, it’s the smallest act of kindness that can cause a ripple effect that impacts an entire community. It starts with one then it becomes two or three good words and deeds a day and then it becomes a mindset.
I’d like to share this quote from Jackie Chan: “Sometimes, it takes only one act of kindness and caring to change a person’s life.”
With everything that’s going on in the world, now is the time to help make a kinder society and everyone can start with just one, “isa lang” good word or deed.
