The Iron Heart stars share their favorite moments and memories from the series
The Iron Heart star Richard Gutierrez, who plays the lead character Apollo, has promised viewers that they would end the action-oriented show “on a high note.”
Helmed by Lester Pimentel Ong, Wang Yan Bin and Ian Loreños, the ABS-CBN primetime series that started airing in November last year and got extended several times is set to conclude on Friday (Oct. 13).
Richard announced in a media conference that they are “very happy and proud” that The Iron Heart has lasted this long. He noted how the audience is still following the series and that the show is still getting high ratings.
“This presscon actually, it’s a surprise presscon to announce Season 3,” quipped Richard. “Joke lang. We are going to take a break. We are very happy, proud and humbled by this project… We started an uphill battle from the start here and against all odds, we are (still here).”
He thanked the media, ABS-CBN, Star Creatives, co-actors, producers, directors and everyone for the support that was given to the series. “We all worked hard for this and now, we are happy to announce that we are ending Iron Heart on a high note,” he declared.
The cast members also showed their appreciation for the people behind the series. They also shared their most memorable moments while filming The Iron Heart for more than a year.
Child actress Althea Ruedas (as Lia) shared how happy they were on set because they were like family. “When doing the action scenes, laban-laban kami, but after that, tawanan na kami. I’m not part of it, but I heard their stories. The Adelantar family, Kuya Louise (Abuel), Kuya Igi Boy Flores, we are like family. Naghahanapan po kami sa airport. Haha!”
It was Ryza Cenon’s first time to work with the series’ actors, directors and Star Creatives and the actress who plays the character Circe was glad to be part of it.
“I really had a great experience and I learned a lot from them. It was also my first time to do locked-in taping in Iloilo, away from my child. It was challenging for me, but I finished (filming it) and I gained new friends.”
Lou Yanong (as Rhea) commended the people behind the series. “It was fun seeing it firsthand. I enjoyed it. Everything works, including the bond that we created while doing The Iron Heart. Kung gaano siya ka-seryoso ganun din sa behind the scenes,” she said.
There was also lots of laughter on set, according to Lou. “Grabe yung mga tawanan namin with Kuya Igi Boy, Kuya Christian (Vazquez), Ate Dimps (Dimples Romana), everyone.”
She was grateful for the experience of doing the show and for the opportunity to be one of the cast members.
On the other hand, Igi Boy Flores (as Kules) said he would miss the conversations over breakfast and the collaborative work with the directors.
“We were super grateful because we were able to give input,” he added.
Louise Abuel (as Troy) chimed in, “We would always talk about our script. But more than anything, (it became a) roller coaster (ride of emotions) sometimes. There were days that we would cry in the morning for the drama scenes, do comedy in the afternoon, and action scenes at night. So, it was physically and mentally tiring, but from what I see now, everything we did was all worth it.”
Showbiz newcomer Cay Kuijpers (as Clio) shared that everything was memorable for her, including the action scenes she performed, her newfound friends and co-actors as well. “I’m still overwhelmed because I was able to meet the big stars. Sometimes, I’m still fangirling.”
She also felt that she was able to showcase a lot of her talents for her role in The Iron Heart. “There’s drama, action, may sungitan, etc. Like I said, everything is memorable for me because I started from a blank place. I just started being an actress. Friends, working with amazing people in the industry and the beautiful (city of) Iloilo, (those were memorable for me).”
Miko Raval, for his part, thanked Star Creatives and the directors because he was given the chance to play the character of Draco. “Memorable for me like what Igi said, nagsisimula yan sa breakfast. Tapos darating kayo sa set. You do your stuff. I’ve done action before but this one is really different for me. Talagang ibang level yung choreography dito and yun nga they are masters of their craft.”
He also praised Lance Pimentel, saying: “He is an actor, director and stunt coordinator. He is everything, so imagine the things that he has to go through para turuan kami to act besides (stunts).”
“The memories talaga na mauuwi namin dito are the work itself, the bonding that we had with the cast and yeah, of course, the things that we enjoyed every day,” he added.
Lance (as Dylan) shared, “I would say the hardest memories, yung sa mga initan, ulanan… puyatan. I cherished them because yun yung pinaka-makikita mo kung sino yung mga tao na it’s always like tinatawanan lang namin ‘tong hard times na ‘to, but it’s not always like that.”
“We’ve been doing hard things for like a year now. It’s not always fun. We had our disagreements. There were not-so-good conversations, too, but at the end of the day, we made it and we overcame whatever challenges we had.” And because of the hardships that they went through, Lance said they built a stronger bond.
Christian (as Orcus) mentioned the relationship they built with their co-stars as very memorable for him. “It’s difficult to enumerate them all because there are a lot. We have different ideas (and) ideologies, but we have so much respect for each other that we didn’t have any conflict while working. Maybe sometimes (conflict happens) but it’s normal.”
“We have so much respect for each other,” he reiterated. “And that’s something that I won’t forget for the rest of my life because yun ang matatandaan mo hanggang sa next project.”
“What’s also memorable for me was my scene with Dimples. Ang lapit ko sa kanya bigla na lang natawa siya. Lahat ng laway niya pumunta sa mukha ko. Haha! Hindi, joke lang. Hindi naman lahat, kunti lang,” he added.
“I think ang pinaka-memorable for me is yung we all eat together,” interjected Dimples (as Selene). “We salo-salo together kasi masarap din yung mga pinuntahan namin. Like in Cebu, masarap yung lechon, in Iloilo masarap yung siopao.”
Besides the cast, Dimples also cited the crew, the stuntmen and stuntwomen who were part of the series, especially the one who doubled for her, MJ. “Sa init, sa lamig, we are like… it’s a marriage of different kinds of people. It’s really a very nice mélange of people who came together to celebrate one another and all are gifts together.”
“I will never forget you,” Dimples told her unexpected “love team” partner Christian. “Alam mo kung bakit kasi si Kuya ang pinakamahiyain na hambog na makikilala mo. Haha!”
Jake Cuenca (as Eros) said that one thing that he would never forget about the show is the work attitude of the people on set. “I’ve done several teleserye and films before and you know, the first sign of failure, the first sign of it’s not doing well, all of a sudden wala ng gana ang tao to work. Here, we went through that but we all survived it together also. It wasn’t high ratings right away,” he recalled.
“But we were successful the moment we got in the air, so we had to uplift each other .We had to be a fan of our own show first. And it spilled over. It’s the same across to the audience and that’s why we are so proud of the show,” he continued.
“We really had to earn it. Walang binigay. Nothing came for free,” stated Jake. “Everything was earned from the ground up… Because not one of us wanted to give up ever. Even in an injury, even when it doesn’t make sense to it anymore, we’re still gonna do it. I love that about the show and I love that about all the actors (and) the directors here.”
He then told Richard, “We have one more mission left (final episode) and we’re gonna slam dunk it home.”
Richard said, “There’s so many memories that it’s just hard to pick just one. It was really the journey of the show. That’s really (what) I (will) remember for the rest of my life.”
Echoing Jake, he shared, “When we started, we weren’t favored, so we had to earn it. We had the grit to earn it. We dedicated everything for the show and sacrificed a lot. Even the crew, the people behind the camera, everybody sacrificed. And that’s what I will never forget.”
“The whole journey from the beginning, from the moment we started filming on Day 1 to where we are now, it was just a nice story. It’s a story that I can tell my kids. It’s a story that I can pass on to my peers and to the younger actors in the future,” he concluded.
