'We're both matured already': Judy Ann Santos on long-awaited project with Claudine Barretto
MANILA, Philippines — Judy Ann Santos said it is the right time for her and contemporary Claudine Barretto to have a project together.
In the late 1990s to the mid-2000s, Judy Ann and Claudine were pitted against each other through their soap operas and movies.
They were considered the hottest stars to lead ABS-CBN's teleseryes and Star Cinema's movies.
These days, they have embraced their other roles of being homemakers and mothers to their children.
Judy Ann believes that today would be a perfect time to do a project with her screen rival.
"We're both matured already. Kumbaga... s'yempre 'di ba growing up, lagi kaming pinagtatapat? I think our supporters are all matured already in a way that they would understand this is work. Wala itong personalan. Isa itong proyekto ng dalawang artista na matagal nang dapat nagkaroon ng proyekto," Judy Ann said.
She revealed that there were calls asking for her schedule but so far there were no pitches or story concepts laid out to her.
Nevertheless, the actress is ready to star in a project with Claudine.
"So hindi na ito dapat pinangsasabong gaya nu'ng araw na nagsasabunutan pa ang mga fans. 'Wag na tayo doon. Ikalma natin ang mga dibdib at puso natin," she said.
Judy Ann was also asked about a reunion project with her good friend and "Mara Clara" co-star Gladys Reyes. The two were fierce onscreen rivals as the titular leads of the 1992 drama.
"Lagi naman kaming may communication ni Gladys. Pero kung 'yung nagkumpol-kumpol para pag-usapan 'yung project, wala pa. But I really appreciate that Gladys was super honest and super open na she wants to have a reunion project," said the actress.
She also revealed what kind of story she would want for their reunion.
"Alam mo ang wide e. Sa tunay na salita, parang mahihirapan. Feeling ko napaka-challenging pagsamahin ang lahat ng iyon. Napaka-talented ng roster na 'yun and something's gotta give. Me magbibigay, me magpapaubaya at may-aangat and I'm totally fine with that. Kelangan lang talaga ng isang napakagandang istorya.
