Fresh from their squeezed-in slumber, which was warranted due to their demanding schedules, comedy geniuses Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola sat down with yours truly at the TVJ Productions, Inc. lair in Reliance to talk about one of the biggest projects they are about to embark on yet.

It’s the iconic prank comedy show, formerly hosted by Henyo Master Joey de Leon, Wow Mali. The show’s legacy spans for more or less two decades with many viral pranks still being rehashed online.

Both Jose and Wally said that they had to ask for Joey’s blessing before anything else.

Jose said, “Basta sabi lang sa’min ni sir Joey ay ingatan niyo. Sabi niya hindi ko ibibigay sa iba iyan, pero kung kayong dalawa ni Wally, okay ako!”

Wally chimed in, “Honored kami! Si boss Joey may gawa nito.”

What the two can promise is their brand of comedy, which they will strive to deliver without putting anyone down and shaming anyone.

Jose’s marching orders were, “Kapag mag-brainstorming kami, sinasabi ko basta hindi tayo makakasakit. Walang ma-o-offend sa gagawin natin, babae, lalaki, bata o matanda, siguraduhin natin na walang offensive.”

For Wally, he pointed out that it is possible to make people laugh without putting other people down as he also puts much trust in the whole team of their new show Wow Mali.

Jose’s viral the Mayor Jose Manalo skit is exclusively shown on TV5’s E.A.T. noontime show.

“Alam na alam din nila ang gagawin,” he said.

The goal of Wow Mali: Doble Tama is to evolve in the best way possible in order to level up. Jose and Wally commit to going out on the field and doing some of the actual pranks themselves. They also are now paying their blessings forward by helping deserving people who are in need.

“May tutulungan na tayo, mga i-re-request na i-nominate iyong tao at kapag karapat dapat talaga.” Jose shared.

Wally added, “Iyong mga tao na i-nominate nila iyong nakapagbigay din ng inspirasyon hindi lang sa kanila pati na rin sa lahat sa community nila.”

They will do these on top of their hit and trending daily Sugod Bahay Mga Kapatid segment on TV5’s E.A.T. noontime show.

Both promise that even though Wow Mali will also be filmed outside, the treatment of both the show and segment are very much different.

“Ibang iba ang Wow Mali. ‘Pag nakita mo pa lang iyong logo at look, alam mo na agad na Wow Mali iyon,” Jose and Wally said.

Jose’s viral the Mayor Jose Manalo skit in E.A.T. will also be exclusively shown in the noontime program and won’t have to make an appearance in Wow Mali, so as to separate the branding for both programs.

“Nabuhay iyong si Mayor kasi nandoon kami sa Tondo at tinanong ako kung bakit hindi daw ako tumakbo bilang mayor and the rest is history. Pero doon lang si Mayor Jose sa E.A.T.,” said Jose.

Because of the success and influence of Mayor Jose and Wally, as one of his bodyguards, recently, it has also come to their attention that many followers and fans online are making them Mayor Jose merchandise.

“May jingle na nga rin, eh! Nagpapasalamat din kami sa mga sumusuporta sana libre din naman nila pinamimigay sa ibang fans,” they said.

In line with this, Jose was asked if he was open to the idea of running for politics. His answer was, “Madami na ako naging offer noon pero hindi ko kasi talaga linya iyon. Nagagawa ko rin naman iyon ngayon na celebrity tayo.”

Last Aug. 14, E.A.T. was called to explain at the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) regarding the show’s violation of Section 2 (B), Chapter IV of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Presidential Decree No. 1986 (PD No. 1986) due to the Aug. 10 segment, wherein Wally uttered some words of profanity.

Even if Wally already did apologize on national television, he assured fans that he will remain open to any consequences that will be set by the MTRCB.

Wow Mali: Doble Tama will air Saturday nights at 6:15 on TV5, starting Aug. 26, and at 7 p.m. on BuKo channel over Cignal.
