Newcomer Beaver Magtalas gets lead role in romantic comedy
In Magic Hurts, Beaver Magtalas (with co-star Mutya Orquia) plays Ernest Buenaventura, a very polite person who is always willing to give 100 percent in everything he does.

After making his big screen debut in the sci-fi action fantasy film, Genius Teens, megged by Italian director Paolo Bertola, promising, young actor Beaver Magtalas gets his first lead role in the youth-oriented romantic-comedy, Magic Hurts.

“Honestly, at first, I didn’t want to expect too much in my new film assignment,” Beaver admitted. “I am having jitters, especially working with Mutya (Orquia), whom I started watching ever since I was a kid.”

In Magic Hurts, Beaver plays Ernest Buenaventura, a very polite person who is always willing to give 100 percent in everything he does. Ernest is a hobbyist photographer who captures scenic landscapes and portraits.

He is a loving son to his parents Arnold (Ricardo Cepeda) and Rachel (Angelica Jones), caring brother to his older sister Nicole. Despite coming from a wealthy family, Ernest prefers walking over excessive luxury and strives to please his parents.

“I want to thank direk Gabby (Ramos) for this opportunity,” Beaver said. “My parents who are always there to support everything I do. I cannot forget ABS-CBN for allowing me to do this film (Magic Hurts).”

“I’ve seen how passionate direk Gabby was from the time he gathered us to inform us about this film. I admire how much he brings out 100 percent from the actors. I’m looking forward to working with him again,” he continued.

Ever since he made his big screen debut last year, Beaver already expressed his desire to become a versatile and serious actor.

“I’m very happy that I was given a new opportunity to act again on the big screen. We were given a look-test before we got our roles officially,” he shared.

“My being friends with Mutya came really natural, because we’ve known each other even before this (Magic Hurts) project was offered to us. I’m very excited to work with Mutya since we’ve been friends for a long time.”

When it comes to acting, Beaver idolizes Joshua Garcia. “He’s really my idol,” Beaver said about Joshua. “I want to be a serious dramatic actor like him.”

Beaver, whose real name is Ernest Jejomar, is the eldest son of Alvin and Filipina Mercado-Magtalas. His dad is a councilor in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija, where Beaver’s family hails from.

Beaver is a multi-faceted talent bent on making a name for himself in local showbiz. He plays the guitar and also writes original songs. Last year, he signed a three-year contract as an artist of ABS-CBN Star Hunt.

Others in the star-studded supporting cast of Rems Films’ Magic Hurts are Claudine Barretto, Dennis Padilla, Archie Adamos and comedienne Whitney Tyson. The screenplay is written by director Gabby Ramos with Jerome Baguio.

Completing the cast are Aryanna Barretto as young Olivia, Maxine Trinidad, Julian Roxas, Panteen Palanca, Aileen Papin, Dennah Bautista, Cassie Kim and Blumark Roces.

Magic Hurts uses the popular ballad, Got To Believe in Magic, as its theme song.
