Kim Chiu shares joys and lessons of being breadwinner
MANILA, Philippines — With her successive endorsements and acting projects, Kim Chiu is thankful for all the opportunities that have landed in her lap. Through hard work, the breadwinner of the family is able to provide for her loved ones and share her blessings.
“(I am grateful for) the blessings that I’ve been receiving. Of course, hindi naman pwedeng mapuno yung baso na umaapaw lang. You have to share it,” she told The STAR during the press event for WorldRemit. She is the latest ambassadress of the digital global payments company.
“And I am blessed to be given this job. I was able to help my siblings finish their studies and now my nieces and nephews. It’s not a secret that I came from humble beginnings,” she went on.
“I know the feeling na wala talaga so with everything that is happening right now (in my career), I’m just very grateful, very happy and very blessed. I am also glad that I was able to help other people.”
One of her accomplishments was that she was able to support her brother’s education who recently graduated from a pilot program in Canada. “I used it (WorldRemit) during that time for my brother in Canada. It’s not a secret that I financed his studies to become a pilot and by God’s grace, he was able to graduate. He is now earning hours and all (to complete the training).”
The Kapamilya star also recalled one unforgettable moment from her modest beginnings that motivated her to chase her dreams. “I am able to buy food that I want (now). Hahaha! I wasn’t able to do that before. It’s that simple. Yung parang gusto kong kumain ng ganito. But I wasn’t able to buy it because I had no budget for it. It reached a point na ganun na sobrang gusto ko yung food na aamuyin ko na lang kasi hindi ko siya mabili.”
It became one of her goals to buy the food that she likes one day. “I started with that simple dream until lumaki na ng lumaki. And then hindi pa rin naman ako tumitigil sa pangarap ko. So tuloy-tuloy lang.”
With a lot on her plate right now, she is appreciative of all the opportunities that were given to her. Besides endorsements, Kim also stars in Prime Video series, Fit Check: Confessions of an Ukay Queen, and she will take on a “daring” role in upcoming ABS-CBN series Linlang with Paulo Avelino, JM de Guzman and Maricel Soriano.
Citing a song from It’s Showtime, “Ang buhay ay gulong, umiikot lang. Hindi naman laging nasa baba yan. Aangat at aangat ka din,” she said of all the career milestones she is enjoying right now.
The It’s Showtime host likewise admitted that she doesn’t have plans of slowing down from showbiz anytime soon. “Siguro hindi ko kaya. I will miss acting. Mami-miss ko makakita ng nakangiting tao kapag nakangiti ako. Mami-miss ko yung umiiyak yung mga tao while they see me on screen doing dramatic (scenes).
“I started from the reality show (Pinoy Big Brother) so I think my life is an open book. They know what happened in my life. So I owe everything to all my supporters so I’m just giving it back to them.”
She is keen on pursuing her showbiz aspirations and doing great projects as long as there are people who will still continue to support and trust her.
Meanwhile, Kim’s long-time boyfriend Xian Lim just celebrated his birthday. The actress shared that they went out for an intimate dinner and a quick weekend getaway in Hong Kong to celebrate Xian’s special day.
The celebrity sweethearts, who started out as a loveteam, are frequently asked about plans of taking their relationship to another level.
Kim said she doesn’t mind answering these questions and offered, “We are enjoying our respective careers at this time. We are just taking our time. We are still young.”
