Why Kelvin Miranda is on a roll
From the pandemic times to the new normal, Kelvin Miranda has remained as among Sparkle GMA Artist Center’s visible and busy young actors.
He plays the diligent student Gary in the Sen. Bong Revilla Jr. action-comedy starrer, Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis, Sunday nights on GMA. He portrays the web designer-No Girlfriend Since Birth (NGSB) Norman in the rom-com drama film, Missed Connections, being streamed on Netflix. Apart from these, Kelvin has done three other movies.
While taping scenes for the Afternoon Prime series Unica Hija, his project before Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis, the Kapuso talent was also reporting on the set of Missed Connections.
That’s why, during the press conference for the said movie, he was inquired on how he handled the challenge of shifting from one role to another — and shuttling from one set to another, if one may add.
“In every project that I accept, whether it’s a TV series or a movie, I do prepare for it,” said Kelvin, who is also a singer with Sumayaw as his most recent released tune. “Nagtatanong ako at nang hihingi ng permiso sa mga managers ko, sa GMA, sa directors… na kung ano yung pwede kong ma-i-ambag para maging maganda yung pelikula (I would ask and seek permission from my managers, my network and my directors on what I can contribute to better my work or the film). I also ask for time to prepare, so I’ll have a clear way of telling every character (and his story).”
It’s safe to say that these yield good results to Kelvin, who aspires for variety and diversity in terms of roles and has shown versatility in previous and present projects. It comes as no surprise that many consider him a most sought-after talent of GMA.
Kelvin said he’s grateful for the support and attention his management has given his career. To reciprocate it, he is giving his all, work-wise, “at paghahandaan ko po lahat, buong puso ko at buong isip ko, ibibigay ko po sa bawat proyekto ko… mahal ko po ang ginagawa ko at hindi po basta-basta susuko (I’ll be prepared and give my heart and mind to every project… I love my work and I won’t give up easily),” said he.
Since the narrative of Missed Connections revolves around love and romance, Kelvin was asked, too, about affairs of the heart. He shared that he is single.
“I chose to be one kasi gusto kong panindigan, gusto kong panghawakan at suportahan ang pangarap ko (I just want to hold on to and support my dream),” said he, referring to his work as an actor and the craft of acting. “Para sa akin, gusto ko munang ayusin kung ano yung merong blessings na binibigay sa akin at mag-focus sa future, sa career (For me, I just want to concentrate on the blessings that are coming my way and focus on my future and career).”
He is also aware that when one enters into a relationship, one has responsibilities and obligations to fulfill. It will be unfair to the other person if one cannot do all this, as common knowledge tells.
For Kelvin, he shared that a woman’s personality is what catches his attention and added, “once naintindihan naman ako ng tao, parang dun ako mas kinikilig, na parang, ‘Talaga na-appreciate mo ako.’ (I feel romantically thrilled when she understands and appreciates me).”
According to him, he had two girlfriends from showbiz, but didn’t give any details, like identities, to respect their privacy.
In describing himself as a boyfriend, he said, “I feel (it’s valid for) all of us to feel all those emotions (associated with being in a relationship) because they come from love. But it’s all up to us on how we deliver them or manage them, like how we are going to feel them… minsan may time na nagiging seloso ka, may time din na masyado akong mapag-bigay (Sometimes, I tend to be jealous, sometimes I become more giving), so lahat naman po yun ay na-experience ko.”
Speaking of love life, he had this to say: “I want to keep it private.”
With the way things are going in his career, Kelvin is on a roll and on the right track. He gets to play roles and record songs. The actor is also up for the challenge to essay a dancer character.
“Kaya ko namang sumayaw pero kailangan ko ng magtuturo sa akin (I can dance but I need someone who will teach me)… nahihiya pa rin ako. Wala akong kumpiyansa pagdating sa pagsasayaw (I’m shy and I still don’t have the confidence to dance). If ever there’s a project (that requires me to dance), I will study it,” said he.
And how about doing a mature, sexy role, given his build and being fit these days? Kelvin answered, “If ever there’s a chance, wala pong masama… para sa akin, basta maganda yung material at susuportahan naman ng management, go ako dyan (For me, if the material or story is good and the management supports it, then I’m game for it).”
