Kapamilya actor Markus Paterson and ex-girlfriend Janella Salvador “work as a team” in raising their two-year-old son Baby Jude Trevor.
Markus considered his child as his “only investment right now.” Last Father’s Day, he posted a photo of Baby Jude, captioned, “The best role I’ve ever had #fatherhood.” He also uploaded a snap of his dad and penned a message saluting all the fathers out there.
Earlier, Markus posted on social media a Mother’s Day greeting to all the “mothers in my life,” including Janella.
“I posted a photo of the mothers in my life. For me kasi, if it’s posted it’s not personal. That’s social media. I greeted her personally,” he reacted when queried about it during the media conference of iWantTFC series Teen Clash.
He and Janella are OK as co-parents, he shared. “Yeah, it’s better that way,” he explained.
The “main bridge” of their co-parenting style is “communication,” he added.
In the same event, the 25-year-old father and actor also said that he prefers dating a non-showbiz girl. He elaborated, “It’s just hard (to date a girl who also works in the showbiz industry). It’s hard to maintain a relationship in such a competitive business. It’s that simple.
“Wala namang malisya or something. It’s just a personal preference. If I do decide to date one day, it’s gonna be someone from not in this industry.”
Nonetheless, he had no issues with his past relationship with Janella who is an actress. “No. Of course not. It’s not because of her. She was amazing… She was the best relationship I’ve had in my life. She gave me the best gift of my life (Baby Jude). It’s that simple. What I said is what I said. That’s my personal preference. It has nothing to do with Janella.”
Markus likewise doesn’t mind entertaining questions from the media about his previous relationship. “I guess it’s OK for you guys to ask. Because like for us our relationship is very personal. Kami sobrang matagal na kaming over with what had happened. It’s been over a year guys since we broke up. I mean we’re not public kasi so you guys have every right to ask.
“It’s not annoying. It’s just paulit-ulit lang. I’m not gonna get mad about it. I’ll answer the same questions. But for us kasi like we’re done. We’re happy. We talked a lot. We’re focused on Jude. That’s our first priority.”
If Janella will enter into a new relationship in the future, Markus will be cool about it. “It’s up to her. It’s her decision. If she needs someone, if she finds someone, that’s great. That’s good for her. That’s her life,” he commented.
On his part, he will inform Janella of his status if he decides to pursue a girl. “I feel like I should. Kahit papano she is the mother of my child. She will always be family to me. I will never not love this person. So parang, it would be disrespectful if I didn’t let her know who I was with,” he stated.
As of now, there’s no offer yet for them to work together in one project, but if that time comes, Markus is “open” to it. “I feel like all actors naman will accept anything… No (awkwardness). We’re friends. We’re good.”
Moreover, if Markus wasn’t an actor, he would be a military pilot like his dad. But he didn’t have any regrets joining the world of showbiz. “I’m so blessed with the life I have right now. But it’s different from the life I imagined when I was growing up… When you grow up, when you have that dream as a kid, mga ibang bata (like to be an) astronaut, pilot or like something. Yeah, you know, I had the chance to have my childhood dream. I had the chance.
“But I was blessed with another life and I have no regrets… My biggest regret was not becoming who I wanted to be in real life. But I was given a better life.”
The iWantTFC and Black Sheep’s series Teen Clash just concluded its final episode where Markus portrayed Jude in the show.
He cited his co-actors Jayda Avanzado and Aljon Mendoza “as passionate and talented.”
“For me, it’s so hard to find people that are so eager and so passionate about something that they haven’t experienced yet. It’s a new experience basta sobrang galing nila and they are very talented, very eager, and very passionate. And it was really a privilege to work with them.”
He missed their “bonding” on and off the set with his co-actors whom he described as his “family.
Markus is currently taping Pira-pirasong Paraiso, an ABS-CBN and TV5 television series collaboration, with Charlie Dizon, Joseph Marco, Elisse Joson, and other cast members.
