MANILA, Philippines — Don't look now, but, yes, our very own Liza Soberano is on the cover of the June/July 2023 edition of Grazia Magazine Singapore.
Liza is one of the most beautiful faces in Philippine show business. She catapulted to fame acting in romantic comedies, most of which featured her love team-up with Filipino actor Enrique Gil.
Now she is coming into her own, as she is set to embark on a journey to become a global entertainer via her Hollywood debut in the upcoming horror comedy “Lisa Frankenstein,” directed by Zelda Williams and co-starring Cole Sprouse and Kathyn Newton.
She speaks about making her Hollywood debut, expressing her excitement and joy over finally becoming the global entertainer that she has always dreamed of, during her photo shoot for Grazia Magazine Singapore, whose editor-in-chief is Pakkee Tan.
She had a good Filipino crew there to doll her up for the shoot, including stylist Perry Tabora, hairstylist Raymond Santiago, makeup artist Robbie Pinera, producer Kimi Felices, set designer Justine Arcena-Bumanlag, stylist’s assistant Kris De Leon, production assistants Clark Mancao and Justin Soberano, set designer’s assistant Elaine Bobadilla, and on-set assistants Jonel Navarro and JR Nala. Capturing her beautiful face in all its perfect expressions was photographer BJ Pascual. She was dressed in Giorgio Armani outfits for the shoot.
All these — her Hollywood debut, her cover in Grazia Magazine Singapore — are happening since she signed up with Careless Music, an independent record label in the Philippines started by Filipino-Australian actor-singer James Reid and Bret Jackson.
Reid was formerly packaged in a similar love team in Philippine show business, opposite Nadine Lustre. Reid and Jackson first met as contestants in "Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Clash" in 2010, after which they formed a band called We Are Whatever, and released a self-titled EP under ABS-CBN’s Star Music.
From there, he moved to Viva Records, where he released two albums before putting up his own record label, Careless. Careless partnered with Viva Records for two years before finally becoming an independent record label in 2019. Jeffrey Oh is now the chief executive officer of Careless, which has transformed from being a record label to a management company.
Much has been said about Liza’s move to Careless as her management company, but eventually the big breaks started coming, including this magazine cover shoot.
“I feel like I’m getting a second chance at introducing myself as an actress,” said Liza. “I’m just allowing myself as an artist to feel, to enjoy the process, to explore, to try things out that I would never have dared to try out when I was building my career in the Philippines.”
