MANILA, Philippines — Now a Kapuso, Matteo Guidicelli is expected to further showcase his skill set in hosting and acting. He starts off on the right foot with the morning show, Unang Hirit, as its newest host. Also on the horizon is his wish to represent the Filipino people by telling their stories. This and more comprise what GMA 7 has described as the new “missions” or series of projects, based on the information given to this paper, that Matteo will take on.

“It’s very nice because you welcomed me very nicely, very warmly,” said the host-actor-and-athlete of the reception his Kapuso family had shown, in a recent press conference. “I felt the love and the care.”

“I’m very honored and blessed that GMA welcomed me here, especially into GMA Public Affairs team. It’s incredible,” added he and shared that the negotiation between his camp and the Kapuso network started last year.

“It did not take place last year because I think the timing was not the perfect timing,” said Matteo. “Sabi ko nga kaninang umaga, parang pag-ibig lang ito (Like what I have said this morning, it’s like love). Good things happen to those who wait.”

His wife Sarah Geronimo was happy about this latest development in Matteo’s TV career because she thought it suits him — and considered the hosting stint and everything that comes with it as answered prayers.

As a preview of what lies ahead, Matteo generously shared, “We’ll be doing different docu series to talk about interesting stories that can really represent the Filipino people globally, to tell these stories globally.”

He has no qualms doing Unang Hirit because he is a morning person and said, “I’m excited for (and about) this morning journey.”

The documentary specials, on the other hand, will also present Matteo’s ideas and see him out in the field. He will treat viewers to an hour and a half documentary.

His enthusiasm in headlining and crafting documentaries commenced four years ago when he joined the Scout Rangers or the Philippine Army. His management team encouraged him to pursue it granting that he would come up with a documentary.

“So, when we went inside, I made a documentary called Ranger G. I think that’s how it started,” recalled he and reiterated what he had said earlier. “After that, I told myself, ‘After this, I’d like to do more projects (that are) representing the Filipino people and the Filipino stories. I think that’s how it started.”

Aside presenting segments and sharing his thoughts on issues and events, Matteo is definitely foraying into acting.

“We’re gonna be starting very soon,” said of his forthcoming action-drama primetime serye. “It’s called the Black Rider with Ruru Madrid. It’s very, very exciting, a hard action in the primetime slot. I’m very excited for that.”

Matteo also expressed his intention to work with Kapuso stars such as Solenn Heussaff, Ryan Agoncillo, Dingdong Dantes, Kuya Kim Atienza and the younger Sparkle GMA Artist Center talents.

From the Kapuso executives’ side, Matteo has been welcomed into its fold because of his versatility as a talent, who has shown his mettle in hosting and doing drama. He will also bring the energy Unang Hirit needs, which appeals to the new generation of viewers.

Years ago, Matteo recalled that he was on a college break from the US and his manager asked him to give the local entertainment a try. His assignment then was performing in the now-defunct Sunday variety show SOP. He also appeared in All My Life with Kris Bernal and Aljur Abrenica as lead stars. Now, he is back with the Kapuso network as host and actor.

“I think good things happen when you just wait and wait for the right door to open and you know life brings you to certain moments where new purpose is born kumbaga,” said he. “You know the meaning of what you really want to do in the industry.” That is finding for Matteo a platform, again with the purpose to tell stories about the people and for the people.

“So, I think that’s where I am now, that’s how my wife has inspired me to become also. You know it’s always not about us all the time, it’s more about the people around us. So, with Public Affairs, we can actually tell stories and be a source of happiness, good vibes and motivations to our kababayan,” he concluded.
