MANILA, Philippines — Piolo Pascual may have been scarce onscreen this pandemic, but for 2023, busy may even be an understatement for the actor-producer.

“We just posted our recent film, Walang Kaparis, to premiere on Prime Amazon on March 23,” Piolo granted.

The film is the second partnership of Alessandra de Rossi and Empoy Marquez, with Sigrid Andrea Bernardo again at the helm, following the box-office success of Kita Kita, also produced by Piolo in 2017.

“We have a couple of films on our recent slate,” added Piolo. “It will be a busy year. We are already planning for the next quarter because we have some films to release.

“I am also doing another film and I am resuming the shoot by next week. Aside from acting, I am also producing some of my films.”

Piolo has just wrapped up an eight-part series, My Amanda, with Alessandra de Rossi that will be aired on Netflix, the first Filipino series on the platform.

Then, he jumps on GomBurZa right away, where he does a special participation playing the role of Pedro Pelaez. The film will be shown in December.

Piolo will start filming The Ride, a suspense-crime thriller with Kyle Echarri that is set to be released this year, too.

He embarks on his first musical, Ibarra, which will be staged in June. Shortly after that, Piolo will be touring in July.

“There’s another film I’m doing when I get back in August for September,” he informed. “So, 2023 is a pretty tough year. Blessings keep coming in, so you just take on the challenge. I always get inspired when I go into an uncharted territory.

“I constantly challenge myself to come up with something I haven’t done before. Bottom line is to just stay active and keep on doing what you do best.”

In his nearly three decades in showbiz, Piolo, who started in That’s Entertainment in 1994, is thankful that he never considered quitting at any point.

“Personally, in my career, I’m thankful and grateful through the years,” Piolo allowed. “Just because my movie didn’t become a hit, I never gave up. I’m the kind of person, who’s very practical. I don’t buy things I cannot afford. Even if I have the money, I make sure that I save up first before I get something, so I don’t have to pay for any debt. Even if I’m not earning anything, I don’t have to worry about not having to pay my loans.”

“I don’t spend beyond my means. I don’t spend on things that are really unimportant. It’s a big factor that you don’t change your lifestyle because you earn more. It’s important for us to know to give importance to our future, not just for ourselves but also to our family,” he added. “Through the years, that’s one of the reasons I stay afloat because I am always practical.”

At 46, Piolo is still unbelievably active. “You want to be mobile. You want to be agile. You want to be active,” he stressed.

“I give importance to sleep, positivity, keeping your mind free of any negative elements around you and being motivated by the things that come your way. With work. I reward myself with the food I eat and the good balance of things,” he shared. “I’m just really happy and content and fulfilled with my life and my health. There’s nothing else I can ask for but for peace and just be a good testimony for other people, inspire more people and just live a good life.”

“If there are things I have to ask for, it’s to spend more time with my family, especially my mom and my son, of course.”

For the past 15 years, Piolo has maintained a partnership with Sun Life insurance company. His journey with it started when the company approached his family’s Hebreo Foundation and they wanted to donate for the typhoon victims.

“From there, I had a photography exhibit that went to the foundation, as well because we sent kids to school,” he recalled. “Then they tapped me to become the first endorser of Sun Life. My sister (Chiqui Pascual Gonzales) also became a financial advisor and my son (Iñigo) became an ambassador as well. It changed my life for the good. Every year, there’s always a new campaign and now, I’m a game show host.”

Piolo is excited about his new role for Sun Life as host of the online game show, Wheel of Life. He is not certain if he will also get to host a game show on TV soon, if there are offers.

“But I want to stick to what I know better which, I guess, film or TV acting,” Piolo said. “If there comes a time when there’s a good offer or a good material for a game show, why not? I enjoy hosting Wheel of Life. Wearing a different hat. It’s a good practice, a good exercise for me.”

Sun Life just also launched Donny Pangilinan as its newest health ambassador. “At Sun Life, we believe the moment you start earning money, you start getting prepared for the future,” Piolo maintained.

“Donny is an ambassador. So that’s a good reminder to us not think about waiting to get old to start planning for your future. I’m really excited what we’ll do with Donny, especially with our on-ground events. I’m happy that he’s part of our family now.”
